Uniques in the game...
I got one of the online filters enabled that triggers a loud sound to let me know that a unique has dropped. So excitement builds in thinking, I might have some useful gear. But just about every unique I've picked up in the game, was under leveled or inferior. I collected about 6 uniques so far and not one of them compared close to the gear I already have.

Is it me or are they underwhelming? Are there any good uniques to look out for? What do you do with your uniques?

Any drops other than Pillar of "Balanced" God are garbages. Dev also implied that they'll get buffed in the next patch. So stay tuned.

Thanks for letting me know. Do you know if they will patch ones already collected or just ones that are dropped as you play?
dont get your hopes for the buffs up to much. most buffs will probably be minor changes.

uniques in poe are mostly straight shiii, strong leveling items or have a "unique" effect not found on rare gear that enables specific functions for builds. they are not supposed to be better then rares outside of specific cases. for most builds rare items are the better option.

My guess is the ones we have won't be rerolled. God forbid they do reroll existing Uniques. I have a few max roll uniques. They're just for collection sake but I rather like those max rolls.
I'm surprized no one asked them this directly I hope they buff existing drops, like who cares the economy getting nuked soon anway.

If that's the case, then they are pointless to look at and they should drop more often. Aren't uniques supposed to be legendary pieces that can change builds or greatly improve survival in the game against the toughest mobs and bosses?

Would applying the vaal orb do anything to make a unique better?

A Vaal orb has the potential to make a unique better....
I found a few that were pretty nice but I think the idea is you lean hard into the one really good stat and then build around it rather than it just fitting into your existing build.

Cool idea but in practice they will be most useful on new characters.

No, i think uniques are supposed to be items that do unique things, that enable unique builds. So many of them will be useless to your build. They aren't like legendaries in diablo4, and they're not supposed to be. They're just unique. They can change a build drastically, unlike a typical rare with typical mods, that strengthen several aspects of most builds.

There are a few really good for specific builds. And for those builds you have to make up for the lack of stats on the unique with your other gear. The problem is the vast majority of them are just utterly useless.

it is really dumb. We have all these cool orange items in the game and their just used for a short while until you get a yellow to replace it early on.

itd be so cool to have like green items for this and a purple item for that and a orange chest piece that helps a lot with this and so on. Allowing us to be more free in our builds and skills.

feels like so much could be added to make the game way more fun and exciting.
Uniques are sometimes build-defining gear at the high level. It's just that some of them take a lot of work to make them viable if there was any route to do it. Later when the game has more weapons and skills implemented, there are going to be more interactions with unique gear that has yet to be discovered.

Yea, cause a rainbow vomit is what this game needs.
Uniques are uniques because *drumroll pls* provide a UNIQUE thing.
Something that you cannot get on rare items, ever.

Yes, many of the uniques are trash, but that is because most of the game is missing, so you cant utilize them.
The way uniques work in both PoE 1 and 2:
  • some are very strong leveling gear, that makes running through campaign and early maps a breeze (goldrim, foxshade, wanderlust, meginord to name a few)
  • some are build enabling uniques, that remake your entire build (The Three Dragons,
Blueflame Bracers, Kitoko's Current to swap around aliments and damage)
  • some are generic uniques that make your build lot stronger/beefier (Atziri's Disdain, Hands of Wisdom and action)
  • some are chase uniques that are basically best in slot for your build (headhunter, ingenuity, astramentis, both unique flask)
  • and some are just bad because bad design or no build was created around it either because of lack of skills in the game or none figured out a way around them yet

Uniques in POE2 seem to be either build defining. Or something as a crutch for early game.
Example of this is all the spirit you can get from low level uniques for minion builds. Spirit on gear isn't available at all (minus your scepter) until lvl 50+.

By that point your minions take much less spirit per minion to summon. So having 500+ spirit isn't necessary and you can put much more into rares with spirit AND resists and ES.

There is only a few builds that really need/use uniques at endgame.
