Terribly optimized with runaway CPU temps
Just a warning to anyone playing this game, especially if you're worried about your CPU. I found my game was randomly shutting off and lo and behold, it was cooking my CPU. GGG knows about this, but this game will send your CPU to 100ºC and wreck it if you don't take steps to protect it until they optimize (if they optimize) this game.

Here is my response to someone else on how you can prevent your CPU from getting cooked - even if it is a very powerful one.

This game is terribly optimized and has CPU temp issues. I was surprised to find it burning up my CPU at 100ºC since I got it - I too experienced crashing but my rig is beefy so it shouldnt be happening. Certain CPUs just get cooked playing this game. Turn V Sync to locked. Cap background and foreground FPS to 60. Go to processor power limits in your power management settings and turn it to 99% instead of 100%. It's likely your computer is closing the game due to temp limits.

For everyone saying "check your hardware" or "its your build" you really need to search this topic first.

if your CPU hit 100ºC you have a cooling issue.
Don't buy a power consuming CPU without a powerful cooling mechanism...

Your rig may be beefy but you skipped as step in designing it.
Test that your system can run with 100% load on your CPU for hours. If not, they you cannot use your CPU at full speed as intented.

Modern CPU have throttling mechanism that adapt their max frequency to the temperature in order to not melt.
So it's likely you trigger those too, which make frequency drops and stuttering behavior.

It's watercooled with high powered fans everywhere else - GGG has acknowledged this as an issue, like I said, it's the game.
But what if my target fps is 120? My TV is 120hz and if I cap it at 60 wouldnt that just give me less for more type of thing?

If your cpu ever reaches 100°C it simply means that you either did a terrible job at bulding your pc or at maintaining it. If built correctly your coling system should be powerful enough ot keep the temperature way below 100°C even if it runs at 100% for several hours. Your PC shutting off is just a safety measurement to prevent your cpu from melting down.

So simply ... I guess either repair your cooling system in case it just malfunctions or isn't properly installed, or just replace it.
Still crashes...
@nico Ok then how can we play games like Cyberpunk with RT on ultra in 4k maxed out for hours and it doesn't melt or have cooling issues. Thats a lame excuse, if anything from that would be the airflow.

Because cp is a 2020 game and not cpu intensive(at least not for modern cpu's). "RT and 4Kmaxed out" as you say are run by the gpu. If he hits 100C in POE2 he will hit 100C when running benchmarks also. Bad pc build.

You guys are so defensive about something that might be an issue that it's funny... We're talking about a game that was locking people's CPU at 100% and causing a total freeze not that long ago. There are a lot of reports regarding people getting concerning temps on their CPUs while playing it throughout PoE2 forum. Is it that hard to assume it might not be a user build problem? Does it hurt? The guy is just alerting people to watch out if it happens to some of us.

Maybe because those games don't require 100% of your CPU? It's a simple fact that a cpu is intended to run at 100% cpu utilization, so it shouldn't overheat if installed and cooled properly. So if your cpu overheats it's not a game's fault. The game can only be responsible for the 100% cpu usage, not for the 100°C, that's a very definitive PC issue. And if your PC wasn't built to support your cpu running at 100% then that's not a game's fault but the fault of the one who built or maintains that PC.

Well, I used to have my pc getting to 100°C as well, but also only whil eplaying PoE1, not when playing other games, simply because PoE1 had a much higher cpu usage. but the problem was that the water cooling system ... had to little water in it, so it basically didn't circulate at all anymore, making it nearly entirely useless at cooling my cpu. So replacing it fixed my issue and now PoE1 no longer shuts down my pc.

It's easy to just blame a game for every possible potential problem that migh toccure, but it is always important to actually check if the game is really the cause or just a catalysator that causes an already existing problem to actually show up. And an overheating cpu is almost certainly a pc cooling issue. You just can't blame a game for not knowing that a PC can't hanlde it if it tries to use 100% of its cpu.

Thing is, we're talking about a game in early access that had issues with CPU management when multi-threading (or might still have, I'm not sure, for me it got fixed), causing system lock-downs. If a game can cause a total freeze in the system like this, I don't find it that wild it can do some strange ♥♥♥♥ and cause it to overheat. We've seen it with GPUs in other games.
To dismiss someone's warn just because you're not affected doesn't seem very smart. Anyways...

Utter rubbish, cooling issues are hardware related and not software, i have a R9 9700X with a coolermaster AIO and this game never pushes my cpu above 54'C. Ryzen 9's are notorious for heat issues as well.

Sort your cooling out, check your thermal paste and dont blame lack of care on your behalf on software.

link the post where they admitted it
Make sure your system can handle prime95 (stresstest tool)
