Minion builds are also entirely way, way, way too reliant on + to minion skills on gear. With that at any stage in the game minions are powerful (the more you get, the more ridiculous they get.) Without, they are extremely weak.
Edit: Also, if you are trying to use Zombies, they are pretty weak at all stages. They are decent if you use power charges to summon them (through profane ritual spell to get charges, etc.)
But with it, its insane.
In the endgame however its the opposite. SRS is still good but the minions carry you.
