I heard that the game will reset when its on full release.
How does that work? Do we lose our progression (items, character, etc.), or is nothing lost?

All characters and stash will go to a beta only league.
They will never touch the live leagues or eternal league in any way.

Yes, there will be a new league. That will also happen several times during early access too. And afterward with each new season.

It will more than likely have some resets before release as well.

After every reset you will be starting from scratch with the current stuff being put into it's own league. You can still play on those chars, but they won't have access to anything new that is added.

Your Early Access character will still be there on a separate server.

I see, is there any particular reason why this kind of thing is being implemented? I'm new to the series so I dont know.

Well, its the point of the game, to start over in a new season, with new content. You can alkso play aouside the season leuage, then you will miss out on the new stuff

It really resets every 3 months anyways, not many people play standard

Basically we beta characters stay but on separate server, people who will want to play it can still play it which is great. Big wipes upon release is soul crushing, people sink hundreds of hours into beta and wiping it all is cruel beyond anything, all the old games that did it died anyway.

This is nothing new to gaming. Every game that has seasons/leagues makes you start new character. It also helps fix the broken economy like the current situation.

Yeah, since this is my first time on playing game like this, I am saddened that my dozens of hours char cant be played on content. But I guess it's kinda good for replayability

"reset" is a wrong word in this case

GGG will start a new league and most of the people will go there
All you have will be left in Standart League
When a Newer League starts everything from Old League will migrate to Standart League
