Suggestion for 3-1 reforge (might be onto something here)
With the removal of alteration orbs, the reforge system was introduced to replace the old alteration orbs.

It makes total sense, as now bases suddenly become valuable, not only that but every item that drops (and that can be reforged) has some value to it now.
I think they did a great job with that.

However, with this new solution they introduced a few problems:

-The tediousness of having to store every single base
-reforging process takes a long time
-personally not a fan of how reforging requires the same rarity of items

So what is my solution?

Introduce a system, that lets us convert the bases into their corresponding 1x1 "souls".

You get 1 soul for a white base, 2 souls for a magic base and 3 souls for rare base. Reforging attempts could cost 3 souls, they could cost 10 or even more. Obviously it will need a proper balancing.
You wont be able to determine the rarity of the new reforged item, it will either be white (dont know about that one though) magic or rare.

You'd have to tweak transmutation orbs drop rate, as they are a way to basically get 2 souls all the time for free, with how often they drop right now. Idk about regal orbs, I guess theyre in a decent spot right now.

I think this system gets rid of a few problems we had:

- stash space (you could even introduce soul stash tabs and milk us further $$$, or maybe even call it reforge tab and add the ability to reforge inside this tab)
- no more worrying about having same rarity on all 3 items
-reforging is actually faster now, as you will be able to convert every new item you dont need into a soul, that way youre not forced to empty and refill your inventory space every time

EDIT: After thinking about it a some more, I came to a realization: there is really no need for a conversion. These issues can be solved by the reforge tab alone, or maybe just a tab for bases.
-Have 100 slots for every base
-remove the requirement of having to have all same rarity of items
-add affinity for bases, make it easier to store them

I want to add: reforge attempts dont have to cost 3 souls necessarily. They could cost 10 or even more. This way you dont have to tweak transmutation and/or regal drop rates
Interesting suggestion and I applaud you for putting in the effort to share your thoughts.

I personally don't mind the current reforge system, especially the storage space requirement.

However I would like to see the new reforged item to be not completely random. Instead it should roll exclusively from the stats from the 3 reforging items. That way it brings a bit more consistency and selection option for the player while still have maintaining some RNG.

I like that idea, but I think there is too much potential for it to be abused. They made it very clear in the past that they dont like this deterministic approach and I sort of agree. It would take away a lot of the excitement that comes with the new crafting system. But great suggestion, maybe they will introduce a system that lets you combine 2 items, but you will have to fight for it. If you fail, you will lose either one or both items. Would definitely be interesting

My take - make chance orbs common
At this point I have more chance orbs than white bases I would like to use my orbs on haha.
SSF problems I suppose.

Chance orbs work different now do they not? Either you get a unique or the normal base is gone. Correct me if Im wrong

Converting items into souls could be a neat idea for future league mechanics
Bases matters for chancing, not cuz of reforge system.

I dont think players reforging as much as you assume.

You dont realize how important alt spam was for the game. Now that its gone, reforging is the closest system we have that is similar to alt spamming.

Look, kid. I was crafting perfect flasks for MB, so i know something about alt spam. If you havent noticed, PoE2 changed whole crafting system and so changed crafting meta. Using much worse system to just mimic something that was removed for reasons doesnt sound right.

I guess you somehow took offense to my previous comment, otherwise idk why you would refer to me as "kid". No hard feelings man, really.

You're familar with crafting, so you should know how important alt spam is/was to the game.

Now there are only 2 alternatives, as far as Im aware, that is
- pick up item from the ground and craft trans/aug
Or
-reforge 3 blue bases

There is no other alternative.
Big maces take up 8 stash slots, I would reforge more but it takes up too much space and is clunky.
