Unless this is yet another garbage thread spreading fake news and hyperbole.
Mouse only is a niche set of players, I use it myself. If you are struggling with it then its probably not the right control set for you. Its a harder game using the mouse single control method, its for a more hardcore old school gamer set.
Mouse frees up a better keybinding setup for attacking ease, but limits movement in combat though it is more precise.
Mouse and keyboard, makes moving easier but keybinding isn't free and movement isn't as precise. In general it will always be an easier control method to use.
Controller is the middle ground.
Controller is only better for car-driving games.
Sports games (except racers) = controller
Racers = steering wheel
Solo story driven games = controller
Fps = m&k
Most games are designed for consoles and do not need all the keys that m&k provides.
Debate could be had though for mouse Vs aim assist for shooters.
I was completely intending to play Mouse movement before that and had to abandon 7 years of believing WASD couldn't work as well form those old PoE1 debates lol.
That only became more self evident by the time I reached maps the first time and vs. hard, spammy AoE bosses in general and mob swarms, where dodging through stuff an exact way/direction means life and death (or at least not taking half your health in damage). Or slowly moving backwards in a controlled manner was best.
The other problem is at least WASD vs. Mouse, is that you lose Hold Down Mouse 1 (or any key) for skill channels and still move fluently while still using the skill.
So if you want to key map say Raise Shield to Mouse 1 you can't move/dodge and hold down Raise Shield the entire time, only breaking it if you use another skill or enemy mobs break it. That's a huge disadvantage/enemy opening vs. mobs with mouse movement.
That said this isn't a problem that needs to be fixed or balanced. The idea being that if you want to use tactics like I mentioned or slow backward movement in general you use WASD.
If you want quick click and forget movement and are maybe using Blink for teleportation instead of Dodge mechanics, Mouse movement may be a better choice.
I also remember hearing that some of the devs have switched back to mouse controls as their preferred control.
Edit: The guy fighting all the bosses at Exilecon. I think hes the one that openly says he prefers mouse controls. Sorry I forget his name.
But I think its more of a character build thing. For example, my warrior builds I have played could use either control styles and nothing would really change. But when i'm using bow/xbow it has to be WASD. Despite what my friends think.
