XP Loss Is Too Far
20% XP loss for a single death is far too punishing for a game that is way over tuned. Especially when lower level maps basically give no XP or no meaningful XP. The fact there are busted mechanics that can 1-shot someone running low level maps at level 80+ make the game completely unenjoyable for someone trying to relax and enjoy a video game after a long day.

If you're just trying to relax and enjoy a video game then do that and stop worrying so much about leveling up more when you're already so high level it barely makes a difference.

As long as you can't level down it's not a problem.

I can agree that there are balance problems but that should get better and it's another issue anyway.

buy the fing omen. also i just grinded to lv97 like a week ago. never died for a whole level cause dying means 2.5% gone and 1 hour wasted. not going to grind to 100 casue, damn the xp penalty is harsh.
frankly you are doing something wrong is you are dying in maps. i juiced my map to the max with 3 delirium and pretty much never dies.

This game is not about relax, every monster in late game can kill u for a second and u lost all ur map modifiers like breach, delirium and lost the rarity of monsters and items found, and lost all the loot is on the ground. So even if u save ur experience, death is frustrating. How can u relax in this case? So only one way u need to be highly focused without any lags

I would assume that if you get to level 97, you know your game. Experience loss at death is 10% of your max experience every time. It starts at level 71 and is the same all the way to 100. This is why it is so punishing on high levels where single death can easily wipe several hours of grinding.
I hate experience loss on death as it is massive demotivating factor for me as I need to feel at least some progression is made during boring grinding sessions. I'm also well aware of the fact experience loss on death is to stay in PoE and it is unlikely to change. I have discussed this topic ad nauseam on PoE forums and GGG made it clear the penalty is to stay. Latest podcast with Jonathan raised possibility GGG will review penalty system in PoE2 but it is unlikely they will touch the experience loss and rather change the one-portal-per map penalty.

I mean sometimes, on end game it's just game designe killing you not your mistakes. Few times got 1 shoted from off screen and it's impossible to react some times when everything explodes (some enviroments are simply badly designed imho, you dont see a thing when things start).
maybe they can add it as an option, like there's "hardcode", "ssf", can also be something like "casual" without xp loss. those players can be tracked differently on some leaderboards, or not tracked at all for that matter.

I died 4 times yesterday at 95%. Realised i was rushing toward that lvl each map, just trying to get it, playing faster than i should, kiting a few to many mobs, just for that 5%. Play like you did to get to that lvl.
why are you even bothering with lvling past 90? , ye to 90 can bit grindy but it's not that bad, after that it's just pointless. 90-100 is a pain slog with juicing maps and atlas for 2-3% per map but it's pointless cuz leagues gonna reset and ur 9x char won't matter.

stop crying and just play for fun, gather currency , gear, experiment with builds, do trials idk.
on reset everyone goes back to start.
Guess I'll uninstall since it doesn't look like they;re getting rid of this stupid, completely unnecessary penalty.

Jeez, I wish it was 2-3% at 95+. Normal T15 map at lvl96 is less than 0.5%. I know that because running normal T15 maps still did not give me whole 1%. Even Untainted Paradise run at T16 map (with 614% extra experience) only gave me slightly over 1%. Grind past 95 is absolutely mind-numbing as a solo player.

By normal T15 do you mean not juiced up?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA from a HC player.
It's kinda neat that max level actually means something for non-ironman characters other than time investment.

Whether you see this as motivating or demotivating is an issue of perspective I guess.

F yeah it does, anyone with a 100 is a good fkn player, if they were grinding low lvl maps, they would not be 100 yet. It's the top 5% at least.
