CRASH FIX - Feb 2025
Context: I got fed up of crashing in PoE2 and decided to go play Remnant II where guess what... my game crashed just like in PoE2 and i noticed their discussion thread was similar to this one.

I came to a realisation that MOST if not ALL crash reports come from Mid-High builds to High-end Build and people run PoE2 and Remnant II on old Laptops and you rarely see any posts that asks things like "Should i upgrade my POS build to prevent crashes?"
-Why? Because they dont crash as much or at all.

Solution: So i went into my Bios and tried to dumb down my PC (not too much tho) dropped my ram speed from 6000-CL40 to 5200-CL40
(Keep the same clock latency if you do this only drop the M/Ts)
I also put the CPU ratio to manual and dropped them by 2. (was 51 or set to 52 and i put 49 as the input).

Boom , no more loading screen crashed.
No more cogwheel crashes.
No more Remnant II Crashes.

I will update in more details of the process but im sure some people are way better than me at this and could lead on this track with a guide.

Build:

Z790 MOBO
i5-13600K
RTX 4070 TI
96 GB ram DDR5 6000-CL40
PSU 850W.
990 EVO NVME.

Let me know if someone has this working too and i will update if i crash again.
I know its nob Feb yet but January felt like it did last for 7 months just this month.

Getting less crashes by lowering your power requirements (and therefore less heat generated) does not mean you fixed the issue by downgrading your PC because high end PCs are the problem. It could be because now your pc uses less power (bad power supply) and/or generates less heat which stops it locking up.

Lots of people with high end PCs are running the game without issue. Many people have PCs with issues that only show up when some games stress them in certain ways.

You do realize that there are way more possible hardware combinations that also could lead to crashing ?
This is not, many high end pc's can run it so everybody else's rigs are broken or on the edge of dying.
Don't be that naive.

delete the path of exile2 folder in windows roaming. switch from vulcan to directX12 and then back to vulcan wait after every switch for the shader loading. but when you close the game you must restart your pc and Repeat

The only workaround that worked for me is to turn off the multithreading before going to a loading screen/opening a map/entering trial. Then turn it on back again once the area loads. 100% of the time works.

It's an extra step sure. I think it's better than restarting your PC after getting stunlocked on loading screen.

I mostly only do this on trial of chaos, sekhemas and on the ff maps: lost tower, savannah, steppe.
today comes a new win 11 beta update. i am testing and it looks good.

Simply means your RAM was not stable at the initial speed. You can run Prime95 torture test to stress test your CPU, and memtest X86 to stress test your memory.

Both tests should never produce any errors. If they do, you either have unstable settings or faulty hardware.
WooZy1K Jan 31 @ 3:58pm
@KillJoy i will run a Prime95 and Memtest and keep you updated if the components were faulty.

So far, i still have zero crashes.

The game runs smooth on Vsync at 120-144 FPS in XVI maps.

why on earth would you have 6000mhz ram and set it to 5200, not using what you paid for?

ridiculous !

This feature helps me before starting the game.

There are still occasional freezes, but they are very rare. And if the game does freeze, there's no need to restart the computer—just end the task through Task Manager.

https://github.com/Kapps/PoEUncrasher

Windows 10, this game was running fine, but after upgrading to Windows 11, the crashes in PoE 2 started.

When are they going to patch this game so it doesn't hard-lock my computer?

I'm not happy about it either because i play other games that requires maximum performance (Tarkov) but so far this is the only fix that gave me an absolute ZERO crashes without having to use PoEuncrasher or disabling CPUs or disabling engine multithreading which tanks my FPS down to 30-40.

I tried so many "solutions" in my 220 hours of gameplay that i just didn't believe any fix videos anymore.

But the fact that other games have similar problems recently with high end builds makes me think that something is wrong outside of the game. (GPU drivers, Windows version, D12, D11, Vulkan etc)

I mean, the game definitely has its issues too.
Two things can be true at the same time.

Additionally, There is the windows 24H2 issue in the background as well... It could be a combination of things as more and more people are talking about how after the update to 24H2 things got worse

It's recommended to run memtest from a bootable USB, to bypass the operating system.
A single full pass will take several hours, so it's a good idea to do this overnight.

Prime95 should be run under the normal operating system you use, but in torture mode your system will become fairly unresponsive as it will be taken up all CPU cycles.
Unless you have very good CPU cooling, I would not recommend running prime95 in small FFT's mode as you will likely cause your system to abruptly shut down due to overheating of the CPU. Blend is recommended for general stability testing, in place large FFT's for more advanced testing afterwards.

I can confirm. I have a mid/high end PC and I started having pc crashes when I hit endgame. Now the game is unplayable even with Uncrasher. Going to give this game a rest until they fix this. Rediculous. But what can you expect for a game that is still not fully released. Love the game so far though. Goodbye for now POE2
