This, although I think he's wrong in his possible video conclusions.
Other than for PoE1 Streamers and streamers in general wanting an income boost for a new PoE1 league around now, PoE2 EA and getting that started was and still is, more important than PoE1 next league for GGG.
PoE2 EA hype caused a perfect PR storm with perfectly timed positive memes for promoting PoE2 that brought them tons more players buying EA and streamers also benefited greatly from the D4 --> PoE2 super hype. Also they had Christmas break for all those teens to sink their teeth into PoE2. The effect wouldn't be the same for say a PoE2 release around March Break.
The fact is PoE1 isn't going anywhere, and focusing on one thing was the right move. They now know what type of issues the community may have with PoE2 earlier in the development process rather than artificially prolonging the process due to PoE1 simultaneous development.
One could argue that an upcoming big PoE2 EA patch will likely draw in more players than a new PoE1 league. Just a guess and we would have to see. I don't think we want PoE1 and PoE2 content competing with each other too much for eyes and brains. We also don't know how PoE1 players will react to a new PoE1 league after playing PoE2.
There may be some shellshock and many reality checks for the Devs and the Players (including myself) about PoE1 and its future. Maybe even PoE2 as well.
I am not american.
Oh, and you can check the leak from 4chan dated late November. This was GGG's plan all along.
No they have not abandoned it, just put it on HOLD!
what would anyone do with that information?
what did anyone do with their overly-optimistic idea that poe2 would not impact poe1 development?
I personally don't care about any "dev communication" or "information" like people who have fully personality replaced with online-social personas.
people like you will take any communication and turn it into a LARP talking point. Oh no, the game company missed their previously stated goal! Let's get some streamers to interview the devs to GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT.
It's about as interesting as hearing the new flavor of nuggets they're working on in the mcdonalds food lab.
yes, definitely rely on 4chan, the place where bots and trolls throw spaghetti at the walls 24/7 and when it comes true the other online LARPers can drink from the well of the oracle.
They leaked the T R U E P L A N.
Like, uh, so what?
I highly doubt they will ever go full abandon mode on PoE 1, but I would be very concerned if I was a fan by the way they talked about things. It seems pretty obvious that game will always take a back seat. Which also shouldn't be surprising. Can't think of an example of a gaming company releasing a new game (especially a direct competitor, same genre, live service, etc.) and prioritizing focus on the older game over the newer one ever.
