Noob quest about Vaal orbs
Why are Vaal orbs considered so risky? The usual meme comment when someone shows good gear on reddit is, "use a vaal or you have no balls..."

I've used several so far and overall good results. Even if it gives me something I don't need on gear I still use the gear since it's still helpful.

Crafting in this game is a gamble. Vaal orb is the last step that ruins items most of the time. But sometimes you will get an extra socket or remove some annoying debuff from an item. You need alot of same-ish items and vaal orbs to get something useful, and never use it on anything that you cant replace.

It's not as risky as being disappointed when you get lower stats on a piece of gear that is worth more than 10D.

Or a level 20 with a five-slot skill gem can be downgraded to level 19.

How much are those gears worth?

the gear i used it on prob isn't worth much to others but i found them helpful. I have yet to see it replace a modifier but only adds.

There is chance for bad results . For example last helmet i use vaal orb on had 220 hp modifier before vaal orb and 14 mana modifier after vaal orb . So helmet become vendor gold.

ah okay so it can replace a modifier. I've only see it add so far.
