NEED HELP! GGG does not recognize me as a rightful account user after I purchased POE2 via STEAM
Hi!

Is anyone here, who can share their experience about restoring access to their POE account? And is there any trustful channel to contact GGG – like ticket system or something?

Guys from support@grindinggear.com only tell that they are sorry to hear what I have encountered but give me no solution.

I have logged in via Steam client. I have purchased POE2 via STEAM. I have downloaded POE2 via Steam and installed it via Steam and used digital game copy as intended via Steam.

And in the game there is a button – to log in using Steam.

There were no notices about account merging and what account will be recognized by GGG as primary source of user identification.

My problem is that POE2 auto-registered to my old POE1 account. And the big problem is that POE1 account is linked to other email (my email), but that email no longer exists. It is because the email service that I used is bankrupt and just deleted its services, so all clients lost their email access and data.

And the real big problem is that GGG look at my Steam purchase as it is some kind of middle-man action of adding a new software license to GGG account.

I do not want to talk about POE1 issue (yes, I de facto lost my POE1 progress) – I am talking about that there should be a way to separate my POE2 account from old GGG account. Because GGG can clearly see that POE2 license was added by Steam API and there was a purchase on the Steam store.

How is it possible that if you pay for a game-copy (POE2) via Steam and log in to the game (POE2) via Steam, it is still not enough to prove that you are the owner of your account? Why there is literally no notices about auto-merging or transferring the license (POE2 digital copy) to some other account (GGG account) with more priority?

I was hoping to start with new account to play POE2 – because GGG tells me to give them some like legal request to a bankrupted legal entity – like I should demand from non-existing legal entity (email service) to give me the content of letters from GGG.

I just wanted to play POE2 using my STEAM account only and having my POE2 account safe.

But here we are…

PS: I am sorry for my English – it's not my native language.

Why woudl you lose your accoutn just because you lost access to your mail? Especially for a game like PoE where you can just use your Steam login data to login into it? I could understand not being able to login anymore, but I can't understand why you can stilll login but ... not have your account?

idk ... I just see no relationship between losing access to your mail adress and getting your PoE account ... deleted? Since as long as the account is linked to your Steam account you can still login into it with your Steam data (I actually didn't even give GGG any mail adress I could use to login, so if I were to lose my Steam account I would be screwed)

If any issues occur GGG will use non-existing email from my original POE1 account.

But if you research about account safety – you will find that GGG user-accounts are hacked on daily basis. To transfer all loot from account for example.

And I cannot change password to my GGG account to make it more safe.

So now all my POE2 progress is also under risk.

And if any other problems will happen – a will not be able to take any action, because I must verify any action only via old non-existing email.

If at first launch there was an in-game notice that a GGG account will be used – I could think of something else. Even register a new Steam account. But now without any notice my POE2 copy is transferred to GGG account as primal source of user identification.

You need to write to GGG support email, posting here on Steam forums will not help.

If you have purchased the game via Steam, it is good as they should be able to validate you and the rightful owner/user and hopefully help you reset the email address. Good luck.

Thank you for your support!

GGG ( support@grindinggear.com ) told me to give them somthing like a copy of a legal request to a bankrupted legal entity (email service) – like I should demand from non-existing legal entity (email service) to give me the content of letters from GGG (Authentication codes).

I hope to hear from them with some new info. But for now this is what I got from support@grindinggear.com

PS: Thank you, friend, for joining in the discussion, I really need help from the community!

Can't you just login on the PoE website with your Steam login data and then change your mail adress?

I cannot modify any account info - I need to verify any action using links or codes from GGG, that they send only to non-existing email.

It would be great if GGG recognized linked Steam access with same priority (access privilege). But no - for GGG only linked email to GGG account is the one and only source of end-user identification.

PS: Thank you for the idea, friend. But I already tried it. If any other ideas occur – please, let me know!

I have a similar problem with my POE1 account and POE2 account. I bought both POE1 and POE2 on steam. With my POE1 account i bought stash tabs and cosmetics. For 2 years i haven't played POE1 then Dec 2024 returned and bought POE2... When login I saw my POE1 account was not link to my POE2 account via steam. Contact GGG support asking to name some characters then they will help. So i ask my friend to go in look what the characters name showing in his POE1. Just to find out that that account was hacked via POE website and the email address was changed. Contact GGG support again with character names and the transaction history from steam just to ask can they just transfer the stash tabs and cosmetics i bought to my new account and for more then month NO feedback....

Am really frustrated and also dont know that to do. Very bad support on there end
