Cast on Freeze issue

Slightly confused but if I have the following in Cast on Freeze (3 slots): Comet, Cold Snap, and Impetus; it works fine. If I remove Cold Snap and Impetus leaving only Comet socketed, I get the error "Missing Socketed Skill". Putting Impetus back in does not resolve it, but putting Cold Snap back has it work again. Basically just having Comet on it's own does not work. I have enough Spirit btw...

I was going to remove Cold Snap and replace it with Energy Retention, but I get the skill missing error if Cold Snap is not in there.

I've tried removing every skill and putting it back, logging out and back in etc, nothing seems to work. Can I not have Comet in there on it's own? I'm confused...

EDIT: tried it with other skills and they only work if Cold Snap is socketed in Cast on Freeze.

are you turning cast on freeze on each time you're swapping?

have you tried cutting new gems to see if something goofy is happening with your original cuts?

take your ability gems out of cast on freeze and put them in a regular skill slot. Then make sure you have it set to the weapon you want it used with and put it back in your cast on freeze setup. Then do the same with your cast on freeze
