Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2

POE 2 Crashes on start up. Black screen comes up then closes just as fast as it comes up.
before anyone asks heres my PC specs.

Processor: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900KF @ 3.50GHz, 3504 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
Windows: 10 Version. 10.0.19045 Build 19045
RAM: 64gb DDR4
Motherboard: ROG STRIX Z590-E GAMING WIFI
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080

Also yes, I have tried compatibility mode, tried changing the config file, tried using -vulkan and -dxd11 as launch options, tried stopping 2 of my cores, moved my game file from a NVME to my OS drive, (that helped a little i was able to almost get to the main menu before it crashed again but was never able to get back this far)

I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I have 20 mins of "game play" where I've just seen black screens and the occasional gears that are on the start up movie. I have spent somewhere around 10+ hours trying to get this game to work and I feel defeated. If anyone has any advice that is different from what I've already tried please let me know, the game looks fun and I want to TRY and play it.

I can't get past the 2 seconds of black screen that comes up before the game just closes with no steam crash report popping up. Event viewer also didn't provide much information.

Same here:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz,

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with Max-Q Design

Same happened to me the other day, resolved it by moving the game from NVME to 2.5" SSD drive.

If your game freezes or locks, and you've tried everything else, do a hard shutdown of your PC when it freezes by turning off the switch at your power supply, wait 5 minutes, then turn it on.

If your power supply doesn't have a power switch, just unplug the power cord connected to your power supply, or if the power cord is connected to a surge protector/power strip turn it off there.

This cleanses temporary data that you can't find (even in RAM) that results in looping issues, like persistent freezes at similar points in gameplay. Just restarting your computer, clearing the temp, windows shutdown, or using the PC's on off switch won't cut it.

I am 50% sure that this will stop the frequency of chronic freezing. If it becomes consistent again do the same thing.

This has worked for game freezes, other than PoE2, for me since 1999 when I was playing Populous: the Beginning and countless other titles.

At that time in PC-Gaming crashes, freezes, were extremely common. Also worked for me to resolve consistent blue screen issues.

This won't necessarily resolve all freezes, but it should give you much more time between them (hours to days).
If it's still black-screen crashing on launch, change what hdmi port your monitor is plugged into. I changed mine to the GPU hdmi port and the game suddenly started working. Pissed me off that the solution was something like that after spending 2 days jumping through hoops.

Damn, I just changed my case recently and I plugged my cables on mainboard instead of my 4090 all along. Thank you guys, I can finally play this game.

If anyone is still struggling with this issue, feel free to check out my solution.
I based it on this thread: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3659127

My situation is slightly different from the original post. In their case, the integrated graphics (iGPU) was recognized as the primary GPU, which caused the game to fail to launch.
In my case, a virtual display created by a remote desktop tool (Sunflower Remote Control) was recognized as the primary GPU (or at least the game mistakenly thought so), which also prevented the game from launching.

The solution is the same: I disabled the virtual display created by Sunflower, and the game now runs fine.

What I did to fix my issue on my laptop (In my case my laptop was using the integrated gpu instead of the dedicated one, not your case since your cpu doesn’t have integrated graphics, but this was the first result in google when looking for a fix to this issue so I’m still sharing in case someone needs this):

1. Go into steam and right click poe2
2. Manage, then browse local files
3. Right click “PathOfExileSteam” (not the _x64Steam file”
4. Copy as path

Now for windows settings part. Search for “Graphic settings”

1. Click Add desktop app
2. Paste what you copied from the previous steps but make sure to delete the quotation marks at the beginning and end of the path, as well as the last part of it (the PathOfExileSteam.exe). It’s important to do the first steps (copy path) since everyone might have the game installed somewhere different than the path I’m sharing

Should look something like this:

C\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Path of Exile 2

3. Hit enter and then click on the “pathofexilesteam” file, click add at the bottom.
4. After it shows on the list, click it and change the GPU preference to High Performance.

It should now be working. I hope the instructions are not too confusing. It’s my first time sharing instructions to troubleshoot something like this.

I was having this problem with 3 different games that all ran Easy Anti Cheat, after 6hours of trial and error trying to fix it the only thing that worked was to restore my PC to a backup 2 days ago via Recovery Mode.
Haven't played in a while and wanted to try it out.
Got black screened came here to check out the solution and nope it's not worth it.
It's like we are back to the 90s again.
Diablo Killer my cleft behind
This game is it's own killer :P

this seriously worked for me after trying it all thankss!!
On a side note for anyone having issues of seeing your desktop flash the taskbar for a split second when you click in game, Delete this reg key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
find HungAppTimeout, delete, restart computer.

Alternatively you can increase the time to something absurd, it's just better if it's gone...
