Repeating scaled up Acts 1-3 before endgame is a little boring but they do add in some new enemy types in different places and stuff. Acts 4-6 aren't in the game yet.
The combat mechanics for your character aren't boring either, unless you try to make a really simple build or something.
I don't find the story very interesting but the world design and atmosphere is.
It might be for you but if it's not then you should check out Grim Dawn instead, if you haven't before. That's definitely got a more meaty campaign experience and a greater sense of exploration/adventure.
We are sitting in caves, eating our own poo, clubbing each other in the head and running from thunder when we hear it.
This is how crafting in POE 2 feels, like a troglodyte in a cave.
To explain; they gutted everything that made the game solo-viable unless you have that 0.1% luck and drop something good or craft it.
Instead of at least a little bit of focussed crafting with workbenches so you can at least make SOME gear that fits your needs, all your gear is two things; RNG, or bought.
So yeah, while its playable as a solo player, you will, thanks to absent crafting, hit a wall after which you will wonder what else there is.
While others wield their +5 to skill gems equipment and steam roll everything, you are stuck with ♥♥♥♥ for gear.
The game is superb fun until it isnt.
The acts could be longer and while they're directly inspired by Diablo 2, they aren't as charming in terms of the puzzle/layout (tree of inifus, cloisters, maggot lair, end of act 2, hell etc) but it does get the dark tone right and it's a lot better than D4 in terms of variety.
When I gamble (be it buy purchasing or by using orbs on base items) I often get stuff I can use while leveling, people buy my 1ex leveling items and I trade them for other leveling items.
When I did hit endgame, it wasn't a problem, I was strong enough to get started at tier 1. I think maybe some players here are new to the genre or played more dumbed down versions of these games (say, that have loaded odds to give you specific items) and don't know how to identify which items matter.
