How much shock?
There does not seem to be any way to see how much total shock chance I have other than adding up all passives, jewels and gear. I probably have several hundred % chance to shock and I wonder if there is diminishing returns...is there a thing as too much?

yea see so I have but shock changes nothing in advanced stats and I'm not math mathematician or mad scientist so I have no clue if I'm just padding wasted stats.
My entire build is based on shock and its working fantastic so I guess I should leave it alone but I second guess myself because there aren't enough analytics to tell me.

Shocks weird I don't think they will ever have a flat total chance to shock since it is based on lightning damage done and the monsters threshold for shock. The higher your lighnting damage the faster it will shock then the shock chance ups just increase how much your lightning damage goes against their threshold. I don't think anything can really withstand just raw dps against their threshold unless you are facing something on maps with lightning res and the waystone gives them increased ailment threshold.

yeah as pure lightning I doubt you even need shock chance beyond what you'd get from speccing nodes you'd take anyways. ^^''

It's based on mob's threshold and your lightning damage. If you alt-click the shock info link in-game for a support gem like conduction, you'll see its description.

It's a chance, each hit chance's 1% for 4% of target ailment threshold. No idea on the exact calculation, Maybe mob threshold is 1000, and your lightning damage deals 500 damage, thus 500/1000=50%, thus 50/4 = 12.5% chance to shock. Mob remaining threshold drops to 500, so you next hit is 100% thus 25% chance then threshold resets to 1000?

But you typically has no idea how much a mob has for its threshold. Obviously bosses with way higher hp don't shock as much... Also 100% more chance to shock with a support gem like conduction is still a mere 2% for 4% of target threshold, aka 50% chance if you deal 100% of threshold damage..

Investing into shock is never a bad choice.
There are mobs that are more resistant to this, including bosses.

Fun thing to know, crits always inflict shock as long as there's lightning damage done to the enemies. Shock will not directly increase your dps and show it to you on the tooltip, but the enemies will take more damage.

You can see your combined chance to shock on the advanced panel of the ability you use.

I don't think there is such thing as chance to shock , or freeze, it is about elemental damage hitting Threshold, but the whole formula is questionable, especially when it comes to physical elemental damage, as increase in equipment add elemental damage seems to play big role too.

I don't think I have ever seen monsters being hit by freeze threshold in 1 or 2 tries in maps with increased threshold, if it is % base it should happen once in a while, or my memory is just bad.

Shock and ignite is a chance. Different ailments have different calculation. For example, freeze and electrocute is based on its corresponding damage buildup while chill you needs to meet a separate minimum amount of damage threshold.

What are you talking about... You quote me where I speak on shock and you speak about freeze... Freeze is different mechanic.
Afaik shock chance is determined by the amount of damage you do per hit with with electrical damage type. The more damage you do the higher chance to shock the target.

You are right, I didn't know that there is difference
