Is this game supposed to feel so unfair?
Just a general question for the community. I hardly played any POE1, so I'm not familiar if this is a theme of the franchise or not. But the number of times I die to off screen attacks or unidentifiable ground junk or exploding corpses just seems excessive. It feels like 90% of the time when I die in this game it's from something I can't see, let alone dodge/block, and it just feels cheap. It seems to be a pretty common complaint.

My question is, is this something this series is known for? I've gotten in the habit of killing everything in the area and then literally running away a screen or two back so I don't randomly fall over, but I gotta say that's pretty boring after a couple of rooms, and there's already too much backtracking through these maps.

Can we get a death recap or something at least? If I have to be blown up from off screen or after something is dead, I'd at least like to know what's doing it so if I see that mob type in the future I can adjust. I get the "skill issue" argument, but I don't know where to train the precognition skill and I'm not smart enough to reprogram the client to unlock the camera so I can zoom out far enough to see the skeleton sniper from the grassy knoll.

Also, is there any chance that the mana drain mob enchantment can be looked at? It feels incredibly overtuned, imo. Just a couple of seconds in that aura and you're completely OOM and unable to respond. Most mobs can outrun you so if you try to kite and drink a mana pot, they're just chasing you down and draining you constantly.

I'm really digging the game so far, a lot of things about it feel really good, but there are a few things here and there that just make it... not fun. Just little QOL and balance issues mostly. It's hard to justify investing time in a game when some mechanics are so unfun, punishing, and unfair, that participating in the endgame just feels like a random roll between a waste of time and an actual worthwhile experience depending on what mobs spawn. And nobody likes a game that doesn't respect their time.

If these are just the growing pains of an early access title and balance is coming, then that's great, but if this is how it's intended to be, then I'd like to cut my losses now because this is not the type of experience I enjoy.

The screen obfuscation is a real pain for me.
Not sure why I need my screen covered in black smoke when I open a Strongbox.

My mate only just picked up playing PoE, since PoE2... And you know the one important thing I told him, get resistances. Dont Fing forget them.

Most people aren't used to having to actually build, upgrade and constantly molding their character to survive in a game. It's spoon fed to them with meaningless stats on meaningless gear and they're able to mindlessly W key through 90% of the content. Almost anytime someones complaining about dying too much it's because they haven't got enough resistances on their gear, they haven't upgraded their weapon in 20 levels an instead of farming for it, or trading for it, or crafting for it, they fail at the first thing they try an go whine about it, saying the games too hard.
The game is difficult sure, but it's not too hard by any stretch of the imagination. It has plenty of room for improvement, and as an EA title anyone with a brain would expect that to be the trajectory. Punishment is part of the ARPG experience sometimes.

Unfortunately, there are some people like me who just could not get a weapon in the last 20+ levels.
I wasted 300 EX on trying to craft one.. constantly getting the lowest possible modifiers and bricking it.. not even a single mid one.. (first F you from the game)
Trying to learn and do the marketplace for HOUUUURS... not getting anything out of it and realising you lost already without using bots, 3rd party apps that help you trading etc... and meanwhile stuff gets more out of range I can't buy ♥♥♥♥.
Tried more crafting.... Game gave me a weapon with total different modifiers which required me to change my whole gear... I ended up with the same stats.

It is fair to say I am wasting my time... so be it.. I am waiting for a game that is between Diablo4 and POE2... either go dumb or go hardcore...

I played a fair amount of ARPGs and a little of POE1.. didn't liked it for very long because of the trading.. after realising it is 1:1 the same I just don't want to feel liek I am doing the same thing I die 4 years ago.... I mean you even use the same trade site... is not for me man.

Is fair that GGG tried to get new people into poe but to me it seems like it is mostly for the ppl knowing what they already did the last 5-10 years or the people who PlAy/COPY builds and are lucky with rng

But tbf it seems like that is the way to be fast enough... I tried my own ♥♥♥♥ til maps and I had FUN... lots of fun... now I was trying to get ♥♥♥♥ in there endgame build use.. like ice shatter ring... flicker strike... nuke wave... and everything did not work.. ended up doing my own version which worked best again but ended up with the damn &*(%(%^*%*(^&% WEAPON again...
resistances didn't even matter if I maxed them or I am sitting on like 65 as melee.. you get 1 shot anyways at some point without knowing what did it half of the times

The game does indeed try to kill you in the cheapest most bs ways possible. I don't think they understand actual difficulty and just threw in a bunch of cheapy ways to get you killed. Tons of high damage stuff that comes from the floor that can easily be hard to see due to terrain, other effects, or corpses. Mobs can attack you from offscreen. There are a few one ♥♥♥♥ abilities like the water hag bubbles. Mobs will rush you at lightspeed and pin you to a wall or circle you so you cant move. If you get frozen or stunned that's pretty much a death sentence. On death effects that don't really have any noticeable visual queues with little time to react anyways that can one shot you. Once you start to adapt to the cheap bs you start to play around it and it doesnt become as bad but yea it's filled to the brim with cheap bs.
Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this game. Refund if possible. Once you hit level 70 and are trying to complete endgame content, if you die, you lose 10% of your exp - and it takes a decent amount of time to get more xp at those higher levels.

Nothing says "Devs dont give a flying ♥♥♥♥ about you" more than xp loss on death.
Oh, aside from cheap deaths, and the myriad other flaws this game has.

Im doing tier 15+ maps and with 400% + all the nodes in map for more waystones. I'm only finding below 10tier maps. That and after entering a map, I literally just die from no monsters around me or anything. Would be nice to figure out why that happens

Edit : 400% meaning rare maps with massive mods etc. ontop of skill nodes. I can 5 shot all bosses except time boss. I would have to comet bomb him for 30 minutes for some stupid reason to kill him.
