Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2

Is this game supposed to feel so unfair?
Just a general question for the community. I hardly played any POE1, so I'm not familiar if this is a theme of the franchise or not. But the number of times I die to off screen attacks or unidentifiable ground junk or exploding corpses just seems excessive. It feels like 90% of the time when I die in this game it's from something I can't see, let alone dodge/block, and it just feels cheap. It seems to be a pretty common complaint.

My question is, is this something this series is known for? I've gotten in the habit of killing everything in the area and then literally running away a screen or two back so I don't randomly fall over, but I gotta say that's pretty boring after a couple of rooms, and there's already too much backtracking through these maps.

Can we get a death recap or something at least? If I have to be blown up from off screen or after something is dead, I'd at least like to know what's doing it so if I see that mob type in the future I can adjust. I get the "skill issue" argument, but I don't know where to train the precognition skill and I'm not smart enough to reprogram the client to unlock the camera so I can zoom out far enough to see the skeleton sniper from the grassy knoll.

Also, is there any chance that the mana drain mob enchantment can be looked at? It feels incredibly overtuned, imo. Just a couple of seconds in that aura and you're completely OOM and unable to respond. Most mobs can outrun you so if you try to kite and drink a mana pot, they're just chasing you down and draining you constantly.

I'm really digging the game so far, a lot of things about it feel really good, but there are a few things here and there that just make it... not fun. Just little QOL and balance issues mostly. It's hard to justify investing time in a game when some mechanics are so unfun, punishing, and unfair, that participating in the endgame just feels like a random roll between a waste of time and an actual worthwhile experience depending on what mobs spawn. And nobody likes a game that doesn't respect their time.

If these are just the growing pains of an early access title and balance is coming, then that's great, but if this is how it's intended to be, then I'd like to cut my losses now because this is not the type of experience I enjoy.

This is an early access title. Things like balance etc...will come through that development. You do know this is just a month into probably at least a 12 month EA?

Most people aren't used to having to actually build, upgrade and constantly mold their character to survive in a game. It's spoon fed to them with meaningless stats on meaningless gear and they're able to mindlessly W key through 90% of the content. Almost anytime someones complaining about dying too much it's because they havent got enough resistances on their gear, they havent upgraded their weapon in 20 levels an instead of farming for it, or trading for it, or crafting for it, they fail at the first thing they try an go whine about it, saying the games too hard.
The game is difficult sure, but it's not too hard by any stretch of the imagination. It has plenty of room for improvement, and as an EA title anyone with a brain would expect that to be the trajectory. Punishment is part of the arpg experience sometimes.

if only you'd mentioned it being ea in the original post and then made it clear that you were only asking because you are new to the series and wanted to double-check if it was intentional and not just due to ea....

oh...
wait...

the answer is that yes, the game is 'unfair' by design because it becomes incredibly easy once you learn to build or follow the right guides. This makes early game and being broke extra hard, moreso for new players.

So just brushing off that it is a game in development.... Got it. People did have a choice to buy it or not, but yet here they are complaining about the state of a game when it was all laid out for them.
new player here too.

reading a lot about on death effects that 1 shot people ALL THE TIME.
I start to think everybody who says that is full of sh**.
I died a lot too.
with low hp, low res, low attention, bad reactions, watching tv and talking on phone.

There are c ertainly a bunch of things that need to get fixed.
Non stop dying from "unfair" mechanics is not of them, sorry.

honestly, i do not mean to sound pedantic or gatekeepy or rude or gitguddy but you have not seen anything until you hit maps or endgame. that is where the one hit kos and offscreen killas are in their element.

The river hag in act 3 / 3 cruel is a joke with an hour long window to get out of it...

... get ready for 400 exploding (chaos dmg, ofc) botchlings zerging you while one white-tier caster stands there ready to blow up 399 of them once the first one dies... and each one leaves aoe bleed/corrupted blood pools.

to a bad build, impossible
to a meta build, you melted all 400 botchlings 3 screens ago by holding w + m1 and fielding trade offers while meowing like a cat in discord.

game is heavily imbalanced rn in the players favour
needs major nerfs to a lot of builds to be remotely interesting

Well ok, if you have valid feedback/bug reporting. You would be better posting it on their own GGG forums...... The rest is just hoping for attention for whatever reason.

ok... You wanna try again?

That depends entirely on your build. You can break this game with the right setup. If you're having problems, look at other abilities or stats to boost your defense.

Sorry but getting hit from two screens over by an attack you never saw coming has ZERO to do with anything you just spewed out.

Getting attacked from off screen should simply never happen outside of scripted events that you have some warning about, its ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cheap nasty game design that allows this to occur.

The game also has an issue with abusive amounts of on screen clutter obfuscating important attack telegraphs, again ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game UI design allows this to occur.

Now if you try and tell me this is an EA issue Im gonna call you a damn liar because POE1 still suffers from this even to this day.

GGG don't want fair game play.
I don't really see much off screen kills except maybe the corpse explosion elites skills unless you are talking about losing LOS of a boss when they are doing some big move.

poor time to ask because the only people really playing the game anymore is the die hard fans or the bots.

as you can see the passionate people are always going to tell you to get good. (they're just a echo chamber and would ignore them)

The game is in a horrendous state and yes the game is always supposed to punish you. This game has no chill from start to finish. if you don't follow a guide you'll probably be stranded because you missed something like res cap or are building into the wrong stat,,,, it's complex and that's another form of punishment.

when you get to maps you get 6 portals to get that "meaningful loot" but if you die once the game deletes the map, loot and you lose 10% xp
