Waystone Drop Rates
I have seen that many people, including streamers, have stash tabs filled with waystones. I am curious, if I am doing something wrong, or there is an issue with my game.

I am lvl 80. I have a rarity score of 102. I am on the quest to complete 8 tier VIII maps. My stash has a grand total of 5 waystones ranging from lvl 1 through 5.

I just did a lvl 5 breach map with a yellow waystone, the total drop rate for waystones was up 304%. My atlas points are put into increased waystone drop rate, and in that map I just completed, I got 3 total waystones, lvls 3, 4 and 5. That's it.

Is this normal? What are you seeing out there, and what am I doing wrong?

You get more as you go. Adding tablets on the map and also the atlas passives helped me.
I get like 6 maps per run, give or take. lvl86

Your Atlas, did you skill Waystone Quantity? Since the waystone quantity nodes, the nodes that give a chance for a waystone to drop a tier higher are both quite helpful.
Yes, I have 4 nodes, and a total of 38% increase quantity of waystones.

It's harder in the beginning, but once you farm level 15+, you can acquire boss atlas points from boss kills on maps 15, 15+1, 15+2, and 16+2, and leveled up bosses drop at least 3 Waystones.

Increased Item Rarity has nothing to do with Waystones. Maybe it can make a Waystone magic or rare, but who cares about that if they don't drop.

What affects amount of Waystones is Waystone Drop Chance which is added to maps by adding negative effects to Waystones via suffixes, Delirium Emotions or via tower Tablets that give WDC.

The other thing that affects Waystone drops is the amount of stuff you get to kill. Breaches, Delirium, Increased Pack Size, More Magic Monsters, More Rare monsters and boss maps all contribute to the amount of drops you will get.

How people get loads of maps is by running something like this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3402355343 and getting as many negative modifiers on maps as possible while running boss maps with high boss difficulty (you can only progress that Atlas tree once you get to T15 maps). A boss on a good 300 - 600% map will drop somewhere between 3 - 6 T15 Waystones. Pretty sure that a certain amount is actually guaranteed to drop, but I don't have the data for it.

If you can afford it you should start using Alchemy Orbs, Regals and Vaal Orbs on your maps at around T10 or so.

Also, note that the above Atlas build doesn't do anything if you don't juice your maps to have high Waystone Drop Chance to begin with. It's just a boost to already high drop chance maps. The Essence ring is just there because I like Essences (and maybe Essences add additional rares to maps idk). You can instead use the points on Pack Size or Higher Tier Waystones.

TL;DR: if you're not getting any Waystone drops you're running maps that are too easy and have too few monsters.

Mos t importan for u is just keep maps with xxx % to waystone drops for bosses nodes on atlas map, lower for example 100-150 % go for nodes with mechanics like delirium exp or others
