The remnants you blow up only affect critters that spawn in that explosion or after, so getting the "increased logbook" remnant as early as possible should be a priority UNLESS doing so will sacrifice too many explosions. 2 "rare runic monsters" markers with 50 % higher runic book drop chance aren't as valuable as 6 rare mobs with the "50 % increased rare monsters" modifier.
So generally you want to look for "runic monsters are duplicated", "more runic logbooks" and "+ rare/magic monsters" remnants, avoid any modifiers that brick your build and maximize the amount of monster markers.
Also worth noting is that chests can drop logbooks at a decent rate, too, especially the bigger ones, so if those are available it pays to get them in the explosion too.
The big explosion passive on the atlas tree is especially valuable because the explosion makes it so ALL monsters unearthed are affected by all of the modifiers. You can lose out on the odd expedition because a build bricking modifier sits in the middle or the map layout makes it so you don't get much of the expedition into that one explosion radius though, so it's a tradeoff for sure.
AFAIK the logbooks are a higher rarity item. This means higher quality maps on higher tiers and corrupted/irradiated should help because difficulty improves rarity and quantity of drops.
Thank you so much for the reply. I do try and get as many mobs as i can especially when i see like big pillars, those indicate rares and elites correct? or runic monsters you said? I opened so many chests too, i just dont get anything....
Runic monsters are the red flags. Specifically the big ones. Remnants are the little tombstones that modify critters.
You might've just gotten unlucky. I'm running rare corrupted tier 15s right now (if I get hit by the runic mobs I might actually die :D) and I've had two logbooks in one expedition encounter a few times.
It's really down to luck, map level and I wouldn't be surprised if rarity also affects the chances.
Just did another one and nopeee, nothing yet. If its luck well then holy sh*t my RNG is bad af. I guess i will keep trying.
