Path of Exile 2

Phishing scam on Trade Overlay
A Few days after Downloading and trying the Overlay. my steam got hacked and some items were sold.

I Came to an assumption that it was the overlay when while playing Poe 2 my I had received a notification that my items were on the market. I have heard that there was Hackers take Players items so that was enough to have me delete it. My friends and I did a reset of our privacy, but minor damage was done. I really don't make messages or anything and i most likely wont respond to stuff, but i wanted to make sure that others have a better fate than myself. have fun and be safe out there.

Highly recommend never using 3rd party software for a game. TBH if anything it is a design failure that an overlay program should even need to exist.
If you looked at the forums before doing that, you would have noticed that they have been having account compromises via 3rd party overlays (not just trade) and trade in general.

I am sorry it happened. There is a reason why most companies do not allow overlays. Majority of them are account compromises.

Fake news. Software doesnt need to exist but it does help people with less knowledge.

Naa, not fake news... the game should have the information built in and should never require 3rd party apps to make up for that design failure. The trade site is now on their own website which is bad enough that it isn't in-game.

It *should* be part of the native game.

If an overlay asks you to download or link your steam account or standalone GGG account it will get you hacked. Otherwise you are safe. Even on steam.

Overwolf overlay here and nothing has happened to me and I do know about the hacks of other overlays/price checkers and I stay clear away from "open source" github crap because no one really checks them anyway they just say that to act like it's clean.

If you have a standalone account from years ago and using steam to play right now just send a support email to GGG to ask to remove/unlink your standalone and just use your steam to login from now on.

I honestly can't believe they didn't introduce that into the game at least with PoE 2. Seemed to me like one of the most obvious/necessary improvements over 1.
Is it really so hard to implement/manage in game?

I expect they will over the next 1-2 years.

From what many POE1 players have stated, they did the trade this way to create positive social interactions within the community. In POE 2 it has been a nonstop spamming and hacking fest with how trade is now.

I respect the attempt. I mean it.

But when it comes to money (any form of profit) many people's 'friendly mask' cracks.
This is just reality.. ignore it at your own risk.
Maybe they can pursue other avenues to encourage social interactions.
If the third party software isn't open source and vetted by the games community don't touch it.

The game.. should not telling you what an item is worth. If you don't know what the item is worth to someone, sell it to a vendor, you arent fit for the trade market..

The spamming and hacking though is simply because of people with no understanding of risk. Installing unknown programs on their systems.. instead of using the official website

"...to create positive social interactions within the community."

Hate to break it to whomever still believes that but there's no such thing on the internet. Online interaction has become a vile toxic cesspit pool where only scammers, fake news and self entitled trolls thrive.
