10% XP loss punishment in endgame is horrible design...
It's just too much, you can easily die within one or two hits even with a lot of health, evasion and energy shield in early endgame because you might get one shot out of nowhere by one of the 25 enemies surrounding you who you can't even see amid all the chaos.

Even in D2 you could go back and get your body and reclaim 75% of your xp...the xp loss with 1 life maps is just an awful design.

if I remember correctly in first poe - u can lose 10% (or even 15?) after 5 act (total 10 acts). Now u can lost only after level 70. I have to say poe2 rn is much easy than poe 1. So if u have difficulties with 1-10 maps tiers - pls read some guides.
Yes that game have a lot info and it is hard to understand all straightaway. So it is no shame to read some guides.

And. Yes. GGG won`t delete this penalty for death

PoE2 is much harder skill wise compared to PoE1 from what I have heard from players which means you can die much more easily which also means that there is no reason for penalty like this. I think that PoE1 doesn't even have dodge roll, you can just run around and clear everything.

I haven't played PoE1, but you have to be much more careful in PoE2 from what I know...

Unless you've rotted your brain out from eating shoe polish i your not gonna think that having dozens of stunning projectiles flying at you from 7 angles or as a wall down a hall way is interesting or challenging. If they want to punish player for dying then they should stop relying on cheap tricks and lazy tactics to force players to fail.

If you're losing enough exp in the 70-80 range that it makes levelling up difficult... that's a sign that your build and/or gear is nowhere near good enough, My furthest progressed character is level 82, I don't regard dying as a big deal because I'm still getting plenty of exp relative to my losses from death.

Also, exp penalties on death are a classic staple of online RPGs, they're there so that you can't just smash your face against a brick wall and eventually succeed, you need to be playing the game correctly to keep going. It's also a common theme among these games that you're not actually supposed to hit max level, your build will be finished long before max level and those few extra points just add a few more % to whatever.

As for being able to sustain maps, it's doable such that only the very worst RNG can stop you, or just dying too much of course. I recommend looking up a guide, it's quite well covered by Youtubers and such.
you are 82 and you dont know it is like to lose ex at the 90ish.. so thanks for speaking but sit back down.

I chalk it up to "OOPS! I stood in one spot too long!" Maybe I should blame everything on everyone and thing else. Have I been doing it wrong?
Whatever the challenge, if a large enough group likes it and has no issue working through it, the challenge is not the issue.

I'm somewhat confused by the OP here....

They say they're running super low end endgame maps and are dying a lot due to their build being lacking in terms of survivability. As such they're complaining that the small XP penalty they're occurring from dying over and over again from T1-T4 maps is too harsh.

Then at the same time, they're saying they should be giving drops for even harder content, with even harsher XP penalties and shouldn't be made to do the lower tier of content that they're already struggling to keep up with.

To polish it all up they then say they want to do things themselves and learn what they're doing wrong to strengthen their build.... yet don't want to do so by refining their build going through their current low map difficulty grade of content until they're not constantly dying.

Instead they want to be dying even more pushing harder content that would leave even less room to actually learn and refine their problematic build they've created.

Then they state they just want to do whatever they want with their build and just have it work regardless to what decisions they make.

So in other words not actually wanting to refine their build nor improve on its shortcomings or their own lack of knowledge.

.... Do you not see the irrational contradictions in what you're saying across multiple posts Deathwing?

It's almost like you're just saying things you think sound good to other people but with those things not being remotely close to what you are actually doing nor what you actually want.

I am stuck at 85, every time I hit 10% I sneeze, die, and reset. Its been 2 days.

Bro with crafting the way it is, just RMT and buy a build. Cause idk what the devs were thinking with these drop rates on crafting mats, but holy hell. How is it I never see Div drops on t15s with 198% MF Like bruh.

You spent a lot of time reading my replies, but you still got it wrong, how is that even possible lol.

I agree with you Darkwing! It is a terrible design. What idiot thought it would be a good idea to put a game mechanic into a game that incentives the player to NOT play the game? After 90+ you literally lose 2 hours of gameplay (and your own life) for a death, which, if you have actually gotten to T16 maps you will know can randomly happen from some off screen one hit combo without you ever seeing it coming. Who wants to play a game where it wipes out the last few hours of progress? Its honestly stressful playing the endgame in a very unfun way.
Dyeshan Jan 5 @ 9:21pm
Don't stress too much, as soon as a new league starts most people will start a new char on the league and you have to start over on loot etc anyway.

I know, but I would like to reach level 100 sooner or later just so I can tell to myself that I finished the game, I don't need to be the strongest level 100 ever and beat pinnacle bosses within 10 seconds, I just want to be level 100 and be done there you know lol.
