unique items suck?
I literally just got a level 6 pair of orange gloves with 13 armor and 10 evasion off of the FINAL BOSS OF MY CRUEL RUN AT LEVEL 68. Why is this a thing???

I've gotten like 7 orange items so far and every one of them has been absolutely useless garbage completely inappropriate for my level, but this one was just a real slap in the face.

Certain uniques are very good, like the shield my sorc uses for 2nd slot could be level 5 or 70, it doesn't matter - you use it because you need the specific utility it has. Also the unique gold ring and gold amulets are amazing for rarity%. There are also a few uniques that you can only get from Map bosses - hard to get, but good. It's a strange system. My one friend just wants to collect them for his unique stash tab and has around 50 of them so far. They start dropping like crazy later on, had several elites drop 2 uniques in one kill.
Uniques in PoE are different from uniques in other games.
They are specific for certain builds and not a straight upgrade over all rare items.
Some are better than others but basically none of them are useless in every possible case.

If you think they're universally trash they're either not for your build, or you haven't figured out how to build around them yet.

What is the unique effect on those gloves? Just because they only come with 13 armor and 10 evasion doesn't mean they're bad.
the whole game sucks
Got some unique armor yesterday wich was nice but had a chance of 25 % to infect me with bleeding. Wtf. It's like having a nice dessert served but the cook confused sugar with salt.

Usually with something like that there's a counter benefit somewhere for 'whatever' on bleed or health loss, say for instance mana for health lost or something.

This isn't really true. Since health nodes have been removed from the skill tree, there's an insane opportunity cost of running a unique. You really, really need to stack as many defensive stats as possible on the gear. Not to mention that a lot of builds achieve that by stacking attributes, and the opportunity cost of losing rarity on a unique slot.

Even if a build was enabled by a unique, 99/100 times the build ends up sucking because of how many raw stats you lose.

There's a reason why the vast majority of uniques are priced at 1ex. They're absolutely useless. If builds were as good as you say, they'd actually be sold at several divs and above (like with good rares), which is not the case. The only good uniques abuse certain procs.

They need to at least ensure there are advanced/expert versions of some uniques to actually make them useful, or to enable some sort of advanced/expert crafting upgrade on them.
99% of all items you find are going to be useless to you.

That's how this game works.

IDK if I've ever had a character over level 90 that had a single piece of self-found/non-traded gear.
I think alot of people have this mentality that uniques are equivelant to legendary items. But thats not the case. It just item for flavour that will help doing certain builds. With that said. I do agree the loot system is bad ,but uniques are not in that statement imo.

I think that they just threw what they had in to the loot table for the release of ea. There are some uniques that are good for specific builds BUT most are just bad or ''good'' with very bad nerfs to something which makes them close to useless.

I don't want to complain that much. I have not played POE1...so was it the same there? I don't know any other game were unique or epic or exotic loot has debuffs.

was the same in poe1, unique items all tend to have some sort of counter balance payoff.

like doryanis prototype armour.. where enemies around you have lightning resistance equal to yours, encouraging you to make you lightning resistance as negative as possible.. then finding a way to mitigate that negative effect yourself through other mechanics

uniques are unique.. the game isnt about filling every slot with uniques like diablo..
the strongest items in the game are rares with high 6 high rolls.

THAT'S the problem. these items need to be dropping at level appropriate qualities.


No they don't. You just want them to be BIS. That's not what they exist for. You can ♥♥♥♥♥ about the way you want them to work all they want, but that's simply not what they're used for. Build defining items can't have ridiculous stats.
