Charged staff question for Monk players...
Hey, I have been wondering about this, does spell damage and cast speed influence the Charged staff spell or not?

I think that cast speed doesn't really change anything, but what about spell damage?

The spell doesn't have any DPS in the skill menu so I am a bit confused now...

It probably works for it since it's a spell but to notice it you would need an ridiculous amount of spell damage.

Not really practical imho. Especially since monks to my knowing.,. only can get spell dmg via rings, amulets and jewels.. and stat slots are far to valuable for something as meager than that.

Also, I have heard that with Monk, your defence is attack and you have to kill enemies faster than they can kill you, but I am currently in the endgame and I usually die within 2 or 3 hits or 1 strong hit. Should I also focus on evasion a lot or should I just go for damage instead?

From all reports the only defense that is working in endgame is ES. Armor and EV only protect against non-boss hits. Everything in endgame is about bosses, the rest is filler. IF POE1 are any indication the ES over EV/ARMOR will never be fixed, how it is now is how it will always be. Armor and ev at endgame will basically be meaningless.

I dont quite understand what you mean that defence is attack but it depends on your ascendency I suppose. As invoker you stack as much as evasion (and energy shield) as you can for lead me through grace... and protect me from harm nodes. You then use the spirit you get from lead me through grace for defensive stuff like ghost dancer and wind dancer. I also use grim feast nowadays. Ofc if you onehit everything you barely need to focus on defence even tho some is always a must imho. In t16 maps the only things you really one hit are normal mobs.. rare mobs and bosses take a while which is enough to get killed, especially if you stack up boss difficulty in the atlas tree.

With decent equipment and passive tree spec you will end up with 70% armor and around 70% evasion.. with 2,2 k hp minimum and 1,7 k energy shield you can survive quite the stuff.. except the usual suspects in t15-t16 maps.. chaos orb explosions.. element mines.. some boss attacks.

Cast speed will work for the initial cast.

Spell damage won't affect the damage. The buff is added flat damage, not spell damage and the shockwave is an attack using your weapon, and attacks can't scale off spell damage, since they are already scaling off weapon damage.

The only thing that will buff the added damage is lightning increased and more damage buffs (and more power charges obviously). And for the shockwave, it's your weapon damage.

I meant exactly that... that you just have to kill everything instantly in order to defend yourself against their attacks. If you kill them first, they can't kill you.

I am not really focusing on shield or evasion now, I was focusing a lot on damage, but the damage started to get weaker and weaker the more I play and now I am quite stuck that I can't really figure out what should I do in order to get my damage back and survive the endgame stuff as well. I am also having quite a hard time with gear because I just can't really get a hold of a GREAT item, half of my character still has items from the normal difficulty campaign and I just can't really get any new gear. I think I should just farm more for a few hours now and try to see if I can get some gear which might help a lot because it's not really THAT effective as I want it to be. Getting better gear in this game is just very frustrating, the lack of exalted orbs and lack of item drops is a bit annoying.
