Can you not choose an ascendancy?

So can I go through the trial and not claim an ascendancy for my character? If I touch the alter do I have to choose basically?

You can just leave, but if you do you have to re-do the entire trial is all if you do want to pick later.

If you touch it I think you have to pick one.

However you absolutely should pick an ascendancy, they use their own points and can unlock really good stuff for your character.

Trying to 4D chess move this. But I sort of regret choosing on the witch if she possibly gets another choice later.

You don't get to switch between ascendancy classes if you pick one, like you can in POE1. Once you pick one, you're locked in for that character

I wouldn't worry too much about it, just roll a new character at that point if the 3rd class is very desirable to you.
That being said, every single thing you do in EA doesn't matter anyway as soon as 1.0 comes out all stuff is in a sense reset. Because nothing in EA is being moved to standard mode, it will be kept in its own place which I'm sure essentially nobody will ever play because that's when official leagues will start up.

To be fair, all 6 classes are missing one ascendancy, so whatever you do, it's early access. Just enjoy the chars, you'll reroll eventually.

If you want to do the trials and not ascend for some reason, you can just ignore the altar, or if you click it you can try closing the game through task manager.

Uh.. have you ascended on Witch? LOL. This is simply not the case. I came here to find out if I even need to ascend because of how useless and even hindering they are for Witch. Blood Witch just kills your character unless you have specific gear/ nodes to save you. Infernalist (to me) only has 1 good node, the hell hound. They feel so bad that I'm willing to avoid ascending until the 3rd one is released xD

You can click on it and hit esc without choosing
