Path of Exile 2

Constant Crashing
Sometimes I can play for hours without a single crash, but today it's crashing in every trial of chaos attempt. Should I disable something? These are all hard crashes with full system lock-ups.

Yeah the game is literally maxing out your cpu harder than prime95. Would be curious what temps it's hitting. Its not good to hard reset a whole bunch.

You need to limit how much cpu the game uses manually to prevent it. Disable multithreading in options, or manually disable one of your cpu cores in task manager, or look up a community made app called poeuncrasher. Or any other third party software for cpu limiting. Might wanna go into your bios and lower your thermal limit as well.

Edit: Just to be clear, it has nothing to do with your specs or what brand of cpu you have or anything else.

Then why is it working fine for tens of thousands of players that are simply enjoying the game? I've got an i9 12900K which I normally could use to cook food with if I use Prime95, but am running this game maxed out at 1440P, 144hz, no significant temperature or stability issues.

Since OP could otherwise play the game for hours at a time, I'd wager the issue is either related to some kind of caching (verify/reinstall game), drivers (remove with DDU, reinstall latest) or system-related. Wasn't there a Windows update recently that was known to cause games to crash? Could be worth looking into.

OP, you should see if you can reproduce the hard crash by stress testing your system. Stress both the CPU and GPU at the same time for maximum power draw and heat generation.

Also go to C:\Windows\Minidump and check if it has generated any dump files as the computer had to restart. Event viewer can also hold some clues as to what may have happened.

If the entire OS locks-up and becomes unresponsive until you forcefully reset, this can also in some cases be indicative of a failing storage drive, though this is typically only with mechanical drives.

Using an Xbox controller instead of keyboard and mouse fixed the problem for me. I know this is not a fix, but maybe it helps you too.

Turn off multithreading in options. I know it causes FPS drops, but no more hard PC freezes.

Yeah try getting level 100 with crashes... Goodluck.

I'll give that a try. Thanks!

I'm running 3DMark on my rig, now. So far ,I havent had any crashes. All temps are fine.
More than likely the windows 11 24H2 update that come out. my buddy had the same issue and he reverted his windows update and everything worked fine. Somehow windows broke every game in existence with their new update. Your pc probably auto updated windows. Go to your search bar and run dxdiag and check what version of windows you have if its over build 22631, you may have this issue.

Yeah, I'm on build 26100. I can't replicate the crashing in any other game, including 3DMark at max settings. I'll revert the Windows build to see if it fixes PoE. Thanks!
24h2 windows 11? if so roll back 23h2. 24 a lot problems.
23h2 same issue, not update related.

Uninstalling latest Windows security update (KB5048667) completely resolved the freezing/crashing issue for me, and now I can finally enjoy the game.
i reinstalled a previous geforce driver, 560.94, and it solved the problem for me. had constant crashes every few hours or so, not one since then.
