Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2

I don't think I understand Tempest Bell
First time playing path of exile. This is my first character, completely new, I have no lategame context. Right now I'm in the graveyard area, and I've just taken the bell as my second level three skill. I really don't see how its useful? I'm certain I'm just not understanding so I was hoping someone could explain. I just don't see why I would go out of my way to hit enemies 4 times with my basic attack to use it and then go out of my way to hit it when I could just be spamming cascade, hitting killing palm and then using the charged fallen lightning to just decimate everything on screen. I'm trying to figure out where this bell thing enters into that and I really can't.

That's pretty much it. Once you get Ice Strike or Tempest Flurry, you'll be able to ramp up your combo almost instantly.
Then the rotation basically becomes "Do some quick hits, and against bigger groups or bosses/champions drop the bell, and attack the bell instead of the mobs".
I agree, before Ice Strike or Tempest Flurry the bell is hard to use. But then again, before Ice Strike or Tempest Flurry the Monk is just in general clunky as all hell. It's really night and day once you get your primary attack skills.

You can use the bell after generating combo hits. You can generate these combos using any skill. it's literally hit an enemy x times and you can use the bell.

It's useful in that it does AoE damage.
First, the impact of dropping the bell does damage.
You do 30% more damage in that AoE if you inflict the bell with an element. Fire, Lightning, Cold.

I should also mention that you should probably stop using the killing palm and the charged staff. You'll get further by using normal attacks, and picking Ice Strike or Tempest Flurry when you reach the level needed.

The killing palm is the worst way to generate power charges.

My monk friend uses it as a boss killer. Drops the thing and we smack the heck out of it, boss explodes.

With my limited knowledge I think you're supposed to drop it and then hit it with your other attacks, turning them into free AoE essentally,

try ice strike + bell

I only use palm as a movement skill, cause it teleports you to the mob.

I suppose I've not made it clear that I do use it properly. It just barely does any damage so I don't see the point.

How else do you do it? Please keep in mind I'm new and only in the graveyard.

I mainly only use it for bossing as it increases your damage output significantly. If you do want to use it for mobbing it's really only useful on tight packs of enemies. No reason to use it if the enemies are spread apart.

It does more damage the more damage you do.

Also this isn't true, its only the basic attack that gives me the counter for the bell. Other attacks don't work for it

no it's not just basic attack

ice strike and tempest flurry will generate combo points
I never use normal attack on my monk, at all.
I guess the impression I'm getting is that I just don't have any of the skills yet to actually make the most out of it because I have no idea what anyone is talking about. Maybe I've not made it clear enough that I'm new and in early game. My character is level 10 right now. 9 when I made the post.

That's pretty much it. Early game you don't really have much ability to synergise with the bell. Later on it's a boss killer, you drop it on the boss and go to town on it, dealing monstrous amounts of damage to everything within range. Bosses, elites, whatever it is just melts.

Unfortunately this is the case with quite a few of POE2's skills, they need synergy to shine, but you won't be able to play into that synergy until 20-30 levels later.

Okay cool. I have been thinking that aside from fallen lighting with the charges its a bit lackluster, but it is really fun using that skill.
