Is Hexblast bugged or is it something else?

I made a witch with the intention of using Hexblast build in demon form.

I just got the Hexblast skill, for it to work, the target must have a curse (contagion or essence drain). Hexblast then detonates the curse doing good explosive damage, consuming the curse.

I tried doing this, but the Hexblast does nothing. You see the ripple effect of the spell but it doesn't detonate essence drain or Contagion curses.
I watch a youtube video and did the same thing they did, it worked in their video but doesn't work in my game.

What is going on?
Is it a bug? did an update mess things up?
If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

Essence Drain and Contagion are not curses. Curse skills are Vulnerability, Despair, Conductivity, Flammability, and Hypothermia. Might be a few more but those are the ones I am aware of. Their skills have a Curse keyword.

Mouse over your gems and look if it has a "curse" tag... Essence drain and contagion are not curses. Use a uncut skill gem, all gems selected and then use the search box and type in curse to see all the gems with the curse tag.

Most people don't manually cast curse as it makes it clunky, but they use a blasphemy gem and a curse gem (Typically despair curse for hexblast ) added to it.

I m playing the build right now, you need an actual curse.
I solved the problem by going for a blasphemy setup with despair and temporal chain in but if you want both you will need spirit.

Thank you for the responses. I was so confused how essence drain and corrosion was proccing the hexblast. I wasn't aware you can add curse attributes through support gems. Thank you everyone.
