A formal and respectful request directly to 10 Cent games to consider making GGG add an auction house
Dear Tencent Games Executive Team,

I am writing to formally address a critical issue concerning the direction of Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) under the ownership of Tencent Games and the ongoing management by Grinding Gear Games (GGG). As you are the actual owner of the game, I urge Tencent to take immediate action to override Grinding Gear Games' current stance and implement a real money auction house within the game.

1. Security Concerns and Third-Party Marketplaces
Currently, PoE 2 players are being forced to rely on third-party websites for trading. This practice has led to numerous incidents of account hacking, fraud, and theft. Accounts are actively being compromised through unauthorized transactions conducted on external platforms, exposing the game’s player base to significant risks. These vulnerabilities are undermining player trust and, by extension, the integrity of the game itself.

By not having an in-game auction house or official marketplace, Tencent is implicitly encouraging players to use these unsafe alternatives. Legal and financial implications stemming from compromised accounts and stolen goods could expose Tencent Games to liabilities. You must be aware that under various jurisdictions, such as the Electronic Transactions Act 2000 (UK) and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) within the EU, companies may face serious consequences for not safeguarding user transactions properly. In this regard, implementing an official, secure auction house would not only protect players but also reduce your company’s potential exposure to cybercrime.

2. The Financial Opportunity
In addition to the security and integrity benefits, the introduction of an auction house with real-money transactions represents a significant financial opportunity for Tencent Games. By integrating a cut of each transaction within the auction house, you stand to generate substantial additional revenue. According to industry reports, digital marketplaces for online games, such as those seen in titles like World of Warcraft or Diablo III, have proven highly profitable when properly executed. Tencent can charge a transaction fee on every item sold in the auction house, significantly boosting revenue without the need for additional content production or external partnerships.

Moreover, such a system could greatly improve player retention and attract new users who prefer the convenience and safety of official transactions over third-party websites. This in turn would increase active player engagement and likely raise your stock value as investors would recognize the growth potential in your gaming portfolio.

3. Legal Precedents
There are legal precedents supporting the legitimacy of such a business model, as demonstrated by successful auction houses in games like World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Both games allowed in-game transactions for cosmetic items and other content, providing a secure environment for players while creating new revenue streams for the developers. Furthermore, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and similar bodies around the world have endorsed such systems, provided they are properly regulated and transparent.

By not acting, Tencent risks letting a competitor take the lead in securing this growing market segment. Recent studies indicate that microtransactions and in-game marketplaces represent one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global gaming industry, with digital game sales projected to surpass $150 billion by 2025.

4. Conclusion and Request
In light of the above arguments, I strongly urge Tencent Games to directly intervene and override the current management at Grinding Gear Games. Implementing a real money auction house within Path of Exile 2 would protect players from security threats, enhance the player experience, and result in a significant increase in revenue for your company.

Failure to do so would only perpetuate the dangerous reliance on third-party websites, further exposing Tencent Games to unnecessary financial and reputational risk. Additionally, failing to capitalize on this opportunity would mean missing out on a substantial revenue stream, directly impacting your bottom line.

I trust that Tencent will make the right decision in this matter. Thank you for your attention, and I look forward to seeing the future development of Path of Exile 2, under more secure and profitable management.
