Expedition has a sort of crafting tutorial, if you'd like to see it as that. It's not labeled as such but does preview changes and highlights affected mods etc. Sadly it only comes into play during endgame.

throw an augment on it
does it have 2 mods you want? regal it, otherwise bin it
does it have 3 mods you need? exalt it, otherwise bin it
repeat until desired outcome.
at some point you could consider throwing in a chaos orb to fix a bad mod and risk bricking it or making it great
