BOTH. So i found a pretty optimal way to run it. when your inventory is full and youre back at camp first identify everything then take what you can sell that has good rolls but you dont need, scrap for Artificer shards (socketed items) and quality (Whetstones) then disenchant anything that is magic/rare thats a trash roll and sell the rest. ive gotten about 1mil gold over 2 characters and probably 300+ Aug, Transmute, Whetstones and Artificer orbs doing this and made bank in the shop selling rares/high rolls for Exalted orbs.

Sell for gold. You might find a point early game where your gear is simply not good enough because you didn't get good drops that were built for you. But the vendors update their inventory every time you level up, so you can spend the gold on specific gear. There's also vendors that sell you randomized versions of items, like a random 2h hammer or whatever, typically called gambling, that can net you some really good items, but it's very gold expensive.

You typically get such small amounts of orbs / materials from salvaging or disenchanting that it's not worth all of the inventory space and trips that you would have to make back and forth to the vendors, and you'll likely get more of those items from just random drops anyways.

Honestly...after the first hour or so playing... i just NEVER felt the need to salvage again. The gold is just flat out better. You get enough raw currency from drops.

I usually go back to the first area to buy socketed itens in Clearfell, to find quality itens too, its way cheaper since its low level gear. I always sell blues i dont use, i only go for the ones that i could use and have a good enchantment already, then i will use some stones to see if it gets better, if not its sold.
