You could easily play POE1 until POE2 is free then pick up POE2.
Cost vs time
You definetely need the stashes, if you want to play, no matter which PoE. So you are not "only" buying the game.
Love the game, but as a casual who's never played, definitely wait for the best experience.
POE2 EA is honestly kind of bad, half the content isn't even done yet, not even in the game. The balance is eh, I think it's tuned to be way too punishing but lots of people here seem to like that, if grinding endlessly to level up and get gear is your idea of fun go for it.
