Is there a guide on how to farm/make low level skill gems?

I upgraded some skill gems too far and also need to get certain specific skills at lower levels due to stat requirements.

What is the best way to get low level gems? Is there any way to downgrade?
If not is there a guide on which difficulte/act/area will drop what level gems?

any mob in the game will drop skill gems rarely. if you don't have any currency to just buy some yourself, sadly the only optimal method to obtain more skill gems is to keep playing and hope for a drop.
Being short supplied of skill gems is only an issue when you're starting out fresh.
On my established character, I have so many excess skill gems I don't even use. I just save them in case I make new characters.
But when I was starting out, getting more skill gems when I needed them wasn't a thing. I just had to play sub optimally.

Yeah I did check but the only cast on freeze and shock ones I could find were listed for an exalt and were leveled beyond me being able to use them.

So basically will have to farm level 25 mobs most likely while figuring out what level actually drops the gem level I need?

You said an awful lot to not answer the question. He doesn't just need a skill gem, he needs ones lower than his current content level.

If you need lower level skill gems you need to farm lower level areas. Which areas? Not sure since there's no real resource online for what gems drop in which level zones. Pick one around the level you think need and adjust accordingly when one drops, or start a new character and save the excess gems. As I clear the campaign again I'll probably make a list of what level zones drop which skill gems, if I remember, just so I can farm them if necessary.

I guess I'll try finish the campaign on cruel first then drop back with high level gear and hopefully breeze through.

Buy on trade or TFT. I have 15+ low lvl uncut skillgems.

Make a new character. Go to town.
Right-click quest gem. Select All Gems. Search!
