Mute system changes

I got a 10 minute mute for saying "I've played POE1 since the Obama administration and haven't had a mirror drop" in response to someone saying they hadn't had a mirror drop since poe2 testing began.

Tested it a few times, narrowed it down to simply uttering the phrase "Obama administration" in global causing a mute. I didn't try the other presidents because testing this phenomenon was doubling the mute length each time, and I was still trying to pinpoint the exact cause where Obama was concerned; it would be mathematically improbable for me to sus out the exact limitations on each president within my lifespan. I did garner that incorrect spellings did not trigger the mute, which made me suspect that the Algorithm™ was behind it, but neither was I silenced for said into Global 4724 (all other tests were performed in Global 2), so I cannot rule out anthropogenic activity.

At any rate, I really have played since then and haven't found a damn mirror since. I think I got a nurse card sometime before Covid. Paid for my whole build.


In an unrelated matter, some changes made earlier this year to POE1:

1. Mutes are automatically triggered by player reports, as well as by algorithm. This was probably already the case, but it wasn't as much of an issue until relatively recently (February 2024), because
2. Muted people no longer show up on trade listing and cannot message non-friends.
3. Mutes double in length each time, with no end.

End result: Any group, player with enough time on their hands, rogue mod, or the algorithm can permanently cut someone off from not just chat, but the market.


Unfortunately, I was more focused on finding the link between President Obama and my inability to vomit text into global than buying gear, and I spent my last ex on some 35% movement speed but otherwise crappy boots yesterday, so I didn't have the opportunity to check if this particular feature was carried over to POE2.

If you are getting muted, maybe you should simply turn off the chat and no longer interact with it.

Conspiracy theories aside, it's obvious that you can't handle your self in a public chat, so it might be better for you to stop before you end up permanently banned.

seems like in-game mods were trained by some discord mod professors recently.

back in 2013-2015 era on poe1 global chat, it was the wild wild west and it was glorious. can't imagine the sh*t you'd get banned for now

Just don't say stupid ♥♥♥♥ i guess. I only really use the chat for trading or asking for smt.

Should review the Terms of Use/Service you agreed to. Like agreeing to follow the rules, then not actually follow the rules, get punished, come to forums, make post about how chat mods hurt your feelings. LOL

Their chat mods have a long history of being abusive, and violating ToS themselves, but that is not the main issue here, the change made in Feb to automate everything and cut people off from trade without any human involvement in the process is.

I genuinely thought I was losing my mind reading the responses to this thread, it's like they were all responding to something that wasn't said. Guess I'm sane and they're just idiots...
