Switching between mouse and controller
I feel this game needs a better way of handling switching from mouse to controller and back. Exiting the game to do it makes it seem really old and clunky. Diablo IV gets it right in this regard with dynamic switching between the two.

I prefer to use controller (yes, I know I am on PC) for the actual game but mouse when in the UI and dealing with 25 stash tabs. The stash is a nightmare with the controller.

Every game I have that isn't a bit old allows me the ability to use my keyboard and mouse and just auto enables the controller when I pick it up and start using it. This system isn't great.

Has this been changed yet?

there is a planned change that should allow seamless switching but its scheduled to come out with 0.3 so probably will take a while if they stick to their current release schedule

It's early access. the feature will come, it's just not the highest priority, especially with how complex it is to implement.

The state we're at in 2025 regarding keyboard and controllers, is that for every game, devs have to reinvent the wheel.
That's how badly controls are supported. You would think microsoft would actually do their job and make Xinput work for everything the way you want but nope... most of the time you still have to use raw input, windows message etc. to make your mouse and keyboard actually work the way you want (and bind the keys you want... when you can make them bindable at all).
So when you have to throw in ps4 and xbox controllers and make all of them talk to each other so that you actually get the right function with the right control, it becomes hell, very, very fast.

Maybe but given that controller and KB/M support are both already there it is just switching between them that needs to be implemented - the hard part is already complete. This is something that was requested years ago and brought up regularly with regard to PoE so the early access point is rather mute and the devs should have had this on their plan from the beginning of PoE2 development. A quick look at their competition enforces that view. Most other games have this function and given it is the way a person interacts with the game it should be a very high priority. Some people will refuse to play a game if there is one key that they cannot rebind. Best not to give people excuses not to play. This is basic framework and should come before balancing and new content etc.

I am glad to hear that it will be implemented in 0.3

Yeah it's actually a deal breaker for me. I'll get carpal tunnel syndrome all over the place if i play this kind of game with KB/M, but inventory management is just too much of a hassle with controller -- especially when I have a perfectly good KB/M sitting right in front of me. Diablo IV did this dynamic switch perfectly. Controller for the main game, KB/M for the micromanagement.
