The Problem With Count Geonor
First let me state that I have played through all acts on both difficulties. I think the Act 1 boss, Count Geonor, needs to be changed. The sheer amount of spam attack this boss gets is just absurd, but the real problem is he has one attack that is virtually impossible to avoid - I don't know what it is called, but he channels an attack into the ground and then a very large red ring appears, centered on you no matter where you are or how you are moving. This ring is so large that it is impossible to move out of it by any means, including dodge roll in the time before he dives in for the attack. This is quite literally an unavoidable attack and should be changed.

Yup. The leap attack was unavoidable for me as well as a warrior. Even with pixel perfect timing (rolling exactly as it appeared) I couldn't escape it

My advice is to just not expect any consistency or well designed bosses, and you will have a less painful time. Just theorycraft items to specifically beat the boss - don't expect the boss itself to give rise to meaningful gameplay, as it will only get worse from here on out (trust me, MUCH worse).

He doesn't have any unavoidable attacks. I've beaten Geonor on every class. With +10% MS on Warrior to offset his innate slowness, which is not hard to achieve at all, getting out of that attack is rather simple. He has a very obvious tell for every single one of his moves. Maybe try learning the bosses. None of them have impossible to dodge moves.

"Not impossible to avoid, just get this 10% movement speed that makes it possible to avoid :^)". Earned the clown fair and square.

My Witch has no issues at all fighting Geonor. He was dead in under 3 minutes, on my first attempt. No dodge rolling required, just stay on the move.

The leap attack has to be guessed when it is coming. If you aren't rolling or aren't leaping out of the way before he jumps into the air, you're going to get hit. The move I can't stand, is his back slash. If you're hitting him in the back, he can just decide to turn around and hit you for an absurd amount of damage completely randomly. Hilariously, he can do it two times in a row WHILE FACING YOU and almost outright kill you. He's a fun and unique fight with awesome dialogue within, but a pain in the butt all the same.

Imagine needing to wear gear in an arpg.

Movespeed boots help you move out of things faster?!

You earned a clown today.

While i do agree that A1 boss should be tuned down a bit because it's major road block for newcomers and casuals, all his attacks are well telegraphed via animations. That meteor drop has a 2-3s wind-up so it's plenty of time to move out. Once the animation starts (boss is fading and starts ascending) the red circle locks onto player position and will NOT adjust. So if you're on the move when he starts the animation, and keep moving, you don`t even need to dodge roll to make it out. And i`ve tested this without speed on boots.

No1 rule in PoE2: NEVER have bosses outside your screen. Not seeing their animations will get you 1shot so many times.

I could flip the logic against you too: "imagine trying to play the RPG as an actual role playing game and being punished for doing so".

It's an ARPG - stop pretending there is any semblance of intelligence or consistency to this title. It's the equivalent of a Marvel movie: produce made for dumb people to indulge in. Count Geonor is an inconsistently designed boss simply because the game cares more about spectacle than being rigorous.

Try another class. I am leveling all classes together and some of them have an easier time than others. Every time I got stuck there was some improvement I could have made to my gear or passive tree. When you finally do it, it will be very satisfying. I died to him over 10 times but beating him with each class was very cool.

This is flat out not true - at least not for all classes. I played Warrior and I can guarantee you that without multiple speedboosts they cannot escape this area the moment it appears. Reacting to it proactively perhaps - I did not try that, but once it appears on me I did get hit. Even when rolling almost the exact frame the circle popped up. I'm pretty sure I had a 10%+ movement speed on my boots at the time too.

I should also mention to take a look at your keybinds, and the support gems you are using. When I setup my powers taking into account mana costs it got a lot easier.

Considering that RPGs since EFFING D&D have been all about the skills AND GEAR you get, what in the bloody hell are you talking about?

That red ring attack is telegraphed the moment he leaves the ground, never stop moving.
Sadly it doesnt get telegraphed enough because the ring doesnt start the moment he triggers the move, it could use a little bit of expansion delay, like a few ms, not even much.

The only other thing i would say needs tuning is whatever the attack is that pulls up beams off the ground, the aoe off those isnt very clear at all and could be more visual. Also warrior can mess over that boss something cruel with all the stun you can dump on him.

Its not a bad or hard fight, just gotta be on it mentally. never died on him myself, other than those 2 hes pretty straight forward.

Lol, dont see it myself. Personally thought it was a sick fight.
Calamity Heart Dec 20, 2024 @ 6:45am
I have never rolled right as the big slam aoe appears to dodge it. With how much endlag is on the roll, that pretty much guarantees you're gonna get hit by it every time. I roll right as it's about to land, which is typically right when I'm near enough to the edge of the aoe when the boost from rolling will put me over the edge in time. It's pretty tight timing, and maybe that could be adjusted, but it's definitely not impossible to avoid, even without movement speed to help, and especially if the intent is explicitly to dodge at the edge of the ring and not just hold click/W and walk out of it. Just gotta get better timing.

Blatant lie. It's called a ROLE PLAYING game. I.e., you get to play a ROLE. If you genuinely think RPGs are a purely competitive endeavor you either a) have literally never played one, or 2) played only digital ones by just watching meta guides on the internet.
