I remember having the same feeling about some of the classics back in the day (late 90s) , which ended up being some of my favorite games lol.
For a good chunk of D2s life you could absolutely brick your character. People forget that. And I'm not sure you are being honest with yourself about how difficult it was to progress through hell, nevermind completing Uber Tristram or world version Diablo without googling a build to do it, ie smiter. Most people, have a rosy view of D2 being alot easier because of how watered down it got over the years and how much they actually relied on Baal bots and what have you to actually get to a point where they felt somewhat end game capable.
This... D2 vanilla and later D2 with LOD in its first incarnation was brutally hard. Rare mobs were no joke and could absolutely be more powerful than some bosses.
The different between good rares and bad rares is not measly 100 shield. It can be different like 800 frikking shield. The end game is nothing but pay to win at the moment. Thats why those gold seller is really thriving. Moving to launch they must fixed this loot table and crafting. At the moment it is just terrible. The end game is nothing more than a playground for people with big guild (more resources) or times. There is no skill in the equation completely different from the campaign.
This Problem would be easy solved when they remove ALL punishment systems in Endgame. At the Moment you Just gain waaaay to less and May lose way to much for it...
But they rather fix classes where Players found a good build.....and No ITS Not the crappy Warrior in early Game lol
