Swift Affliction bug or wording issue?

Swift Affliction support gem states "Supported skill deal 35% more non-Ailment damage over time" and "20% less duration of supported skill duration and ailments they inflict"
1) What the hell is "non-Ailment damage over time"?
2) the only visible change to a stats window it does is the dots duration time (as the wording intended).

Ailments are: Chill, Freeze, Shock, Electrocute, Ignite, Poisen, Bleed.
So any damage from these ailments won't do more damage.
it's mainly used with Contagion-Essence Drain, since it's a none-ailment Damage Over Time that deals chaos damage.
It makes each tick of damage do more damage, but the DoT's duration is shorter.

I knew what Ailments are from the ingame tooltip, i just was not aware that Contagion is something else entirely (have not tried casters yet). Thank you.
