You should be able to reduce Gems level with lower level Uncut gems
You should be able to reduce Gems level with lower level Uncut gems

For now there is no mechanic to do it

But logically it should go to lower gems

That is actually a good reminder, thank you. Yeah gem quality level and socket count does make sense. The need to keep it does make sense. And I can understand that you may want to lower your mana cost as your build changes.

For all but the gem quality and socket count, the fix is pretty easy with just using uncut lower level gems. But gem quality and socket count are big things for builds. Just for those reasons alone yeah it does make sense to have an ability to lower your current gem level. Thank you for the reminder.

Yes, we need to be able get low level gems from higher level gems. Naturally playing I got unlucky and no spirit gems drop from level 28 -48.

However, I can not upgrade a spirit buff because of the requirements and all i have is a lvl 14 spirit gem when all i need a level 7 as that is all my character can support.
Ok, I'm just going to apologize to the person who posted this. I'm not sure how new to the game you are but it's clear there are a lot of new players joining POE2. I agree I wish there was a way. I'm sure they'll add it later. There's a lot of QOL that they have planned. We're still missing a lot but it's good to have these discussion that way they know what we want. GGG is very good at listening to the players.

You should be allowed to view skills in the game without having to click on a gem. I wanna see the videos of what these skills do but I can't.
WHen on a skill that you do not have, hold ALT and then hover over the play button. The skill should play. Do not need to purchase or be proper level to watch them.

You should just be able to pick what level you want from higher once.

lol what?.... the dudes suggestion is exactly the answer. You want lower ♥♥♥♥, go to a lower area and farm.

You shouldn't be forced to farm low level areas in the hopes of getting that one gem drop you need.

Quality of life is a thing.

Yup, for example Curse skill gem, with those support gem, your mana cost will become sky high on later level, which you better use basic level of Curse skill gem because high level curse gem doesnt give much benefit (just like 1-2%) yet have hefty over 200% cost. (especially blood mage since it use FULL LIFE to cost it).
And you dont want to waste those skill gem with 4 or 5 socket.

Using lower level uncut skill gems, you can just create a lower level version of the spell you are currently using.

But your suggestion would need a lower level one to do it, so you would already have it.
Am I missing something?
Your suggestion (as an example): Use a level 10 gem to lower an 18 to 10
Current setup: use that 10 to make a 10.

Wouldn't both have the same issue you state? That you need to find a 10?

i mean we lost scouring...

we need a vendor with low level skills gems around the middle of the campaign like we did in poe with our access to all gem level 1.

we need something similar.

Again, just add the possibility of choosing the skill gems level up to the level you are using a skill gem for. So if its a level 7 skill gem ... just freely picking lvl 1-7
I know this is an older thread, yet I'd like to believe the people who couldn't see the issue at all or those who suggested to go back to the campaign to farm or even start a new character were really new to POE or were still in the campaign and not doing higher tier waystones yet at the time. If not, I hope this isn't indicative of the audience the game is being made for.

If not having easy access to lower level gems or at least having something similar to regret orbs or scouring orbs from POE 1 to modify our skill gems was a design choice and not an oversight (which still merits a few questions at least and some eyebrows raised), I'm getting even more concerned about the direction of the game than I already am.

Maybe its just my outlook. By level 80 I had so many lower level gems I couldn't fit anymore (gem tab only holds 500).
If I ever need more, with even just basic magic find, if I go to a lower area, the mobs vomit gems of the level of that area at me. I stopped picking them up unless they are 19/20. As I got dozens of each other level, even after using some on my 2nd and 3rd characters.

I started selling off lower ones to the vendor for 25 gold to get rid of them to make room for skill gems (that 500 limit). Unsure how people don't have them falling out of their pockets.

One of the more expensive items in the game is low level skill and spirit gems because builds often incorporate 1 or 2 skills "off spec" for a utility reason. Usually its the "cast on" spells.

I believe it is specifically level 8 spirit gems that are worth 10-20 exalts.

With 2 characters level 90+ and having had to delete gems from my gem tab multiple times (500 is not enough with this gem system) to make room before we started to have access to loot filters that we could edit, I still have very little uncut gems that are lower than level 10, especially uncut spirit ones.

You're saying you'd go back to farm act 2 to get level 6 to 9 gems once you're finished with the campaign? Perhaps this is just me, and maybe I'm misinterpreting what you meant, but that's really not my idea of something even remotely fun.
