Remove XP Loss On Death
So I spent about 2 hours doing T1-T2 maps last night (level 70) and gained a net total of 2% XP. I'm a Monk melee build, I have 77% evasion, 50-60% resistances across the board, I clear packs pretty easy but then all of the sudden I get 1 shot for some reason or another. I'm able to complete the maps after a few tries, but my net XP gain is moot. It just doesn't feel good. I want to be able to attempt the maps, and after a few tries if I complete it I should feel like I'm better off than I was when I started. Yes, I've tried changing some items around to get more HP, resistances, defenses, etc. It doesn't seem to make a difference in the results. I still clear packs easily, and I still get 1 shot at some point in the map after getting stuck, or stunned, or making a small mistake. I've blown all my orbs crafting items to try to help and now I'm sort of stuck. It just feels overly punishing and like I'm not making any progress.

Is my only option to go back to some low level campaign area and grind out more orbs (xp gains are minimal on lower level mobs) to try to craft better gear?

Any tips on what I should be doing from here?

You blew your orbs crafting instead of buying stuff for cheaper than the orbs you burned trying to craft junk? I would say git gud, but it sounds like you need to git smart first.

https://www.pathofexile.com/trade2

Try it.

trade = pay2win

100 exalts are 3 dollar right now

why would you ever grind the game if working a minimum wage job at mc donalds is like 10x more effective

there is only one solution:

play SSF, it is the real game.

Do you know you can buy an item that will reduce XP loss by 75% ? It is called Omen of Amelioration and it is very usefull at 90+ lvls. I always carry one on me just in case. I'm currently lvl 93 and one death can be 1-2h running T15-T16 maps.

I don't mind XP penalty loss on death personally since I always play builds that rarely die (6,5k ES + 5,1k mana with MoM + EB + CI) but I know it can be frustrating losing hours of progress by some random one shot and unfortunatelly PoE has too many one shots, post-death effects that can easily kill you and the amount of clutter on screen can be an issue too.

If the game had less one shot mechanics and better visual clarity I wouldn't mind death on loss but in the current state, I fear it will made a lot of people quit.
If he keep dying in T1, he won't find a ritual for it haha

Did you try not dying maybe?
I’ve noticed some people are just being condescending, flaunting their overpowered builds and acting superior! I was doing perfectly fine for the first ten hours, running T1-T2 maps. But in the past two hours, I’ve died over 20 times! It’s the same playstyle, so where’s the reasonable explanation? How does it suddenly become an endless chain of one-shots? Two hours and not even a single level gained—my experience is at zero! Hours of grinding gone in one random death! And the deaths are completely inexplicable! So, what, people aren’t allowed to explore on their own? We’re only supposed to copy other builds and one-shot everything to play the “right way”?
Grubbs008 27/dez./2024 às 13:31
I agree it sucks, but the maps need to be what they were in PoE 1, the portal number equals your death count, not a 1 shot like it is now. It's ridiculous. Half the time i die to server lag anyways. This is why I don't play Hardcore.

oh man more suggestions from people failing to understand the game and how it plays!

Get rid of XP loss at HIGHER level, and now hitting max level isnt a big deal.

You are overlevel for t1-t2 so thats why it feels so slow.

If you are still dying to maps this low, then its a build/gear problem.

You clear packs "easily" what does easily look like to you? If you are not one shotting full screens, you are not clearing "easily"

I'm playing a monk too like 5 levels lower than you and no problems.

Start with your weapon. Whats your main clearing skills DPS? What are your weapons stats?

Loosing XP on death could be ok if at least it not make you loose a % of your current XP progress but only the XP you got during the map.
It is extremly UNFAIR to loose XP you got from Hours of play juste because in one map, a mob oneshot you/ a mechanic one shot you/ something oneshot you.

It is unfair, not fun, not engaging, and a big disrespect for the time the player invest in the game.

Ok i get it, i die, i loose the map, i loose the item, i loose the bonus and i loose the In-map XP : fair enough. Dont remove more than that.

How a player can progress if they can't get more lvl? How can they farm better items / currency to craft better items if they can't lvlup to got stronger passiv/ability? Especially when getting XP on advanced End game Take hours of farming that can be lost in less than a second?

Its only a big deal for the people that no life the game.......not for the people who actually want to have fun.

There is currently a bug where all forms of armour (phys evasion and elemental) are not having the percentages calculated correctly, once they fix it the one shots should stop

Cap your resists and dont go below 60% chaos res, make sure your damage is good enough that at most you two shot white mobs. Yes, like almost every game in existence there is a way to play thats optimal and many ways to play that are not.

Going to state a few things, make come off as poking at people, but I’m just trying to point some stuff out. Not directed at just the OP but to the replies.

Personally I came into the game blind like many others, the game has a huge currency system, I wasted thing, got rid of things I didn’t realize were good. I’ve died quite a bit, which involved tweaking either my build or gear directly. My witch is 88, I still die due to not noticing certain mobs or stuff on the ground. I get half my health due to ascendancy, so 1.2k health. Mana is 1.2k as well, I perked into taking damage through mana before health, my energy shield is 6k and doubles to 12k. Poison goes past the shield and eats me alive so I’ll die when I’m not fully paying attention. Obviously I get the exp loss but I just keep going, I enjoy it. I like the challenge and that’s the point of it. If you could just straight steam roll through it, it wouldn’t be any different from any other game. I could mention a handful but I’m sure people would get pissy and say no that games for hard core players lmao when it’s it’s usually pretty casual. Stating this to give some light on the rest of my comment.

People like to state the difference in types of gamers and what they probably do and so on. You have those who constantly complain, but at the same time some honestly asking for suggestions and it turns into those who talk down to them or state something in a way the poster takes offense to. But if you know you’re a casual gamer, some one who gets frustrated at tedious or difficult tasks, especially endless grinding and working at something over time. some one who wants everything fully explained to them instead of figuring it out on their own or searching for information as google which is filled with it for every game within a week of release, some times before release. You’re a casual gamer, stick to casual games around the same concept of game but not difficulty.

It’s common to come to forums or even reviews sections, complain and say how it should be different. How you’d personally would like, which usually is a bland of every game on the market dumbing it down and getting rid of any uniqueness or difficulty. But the thing is many look up games or research them before playing, I see this a lot when someone plays something that’s difficult or helps and they play for a short period before going nuts.

The people who sit there and say get good and crap like that are no better than the same people the complaint about every game. The community is simply toxic for gaming and everyone wants confrontation. Everyone is a troll whether they the ones talking crap to the ones complaining and want a game changed or the ones who want it changed. Simply looking for confrontation to feel superior in some way. Once again just toxicity

Everyone says they want something different in a game, any time a company does that. It’s shot down in a week by the same people who say they want something different.

Not every game has to be made so everyone can play it, it’s just entitlement to feel everyone should be able to play any game. Whether it revolves around skill, system, internet and so on.

So I take that you haven't experienced all the nice bugs that causing deaths without any wrong doing by the player. Like I got knocked into a textrue - couldn't get out, died. Or I charged with the shield bash into a shrine and got stuck - died again.

My personal favorite is the "1 hit damage" it's funny to see that there are white or blue monsters that can 1hit you with 10000 damage... sadly we can't see the damage we take so we can't confirm this but there are plenty of videos on youtube showing this. It happened quite a few times to streamers as well.

There are reasons that make EXp loss pointless.

Let me add here: being lv 88 is sweet... I reached lv 89 last night playing Tier 15 maps. 2 Maps giving me around 10% EXP. 2 Maps are about 25-30 minutes. This could be kinda reasonable... it's getting borderline ugly starting from lv 90 because you don't get more EXP since the Enemy level doesn't grow with you. So 90 > 91 you need 4-5 maps per 10 EXP. 91 > 92 you you need 12 maps for 10% and so on.... The values might not fit but you get the idea. Yes, lv 90 is kinda the soft goal of the game. That's what many people say. But it's just ugly and annoying to be gated from any more EXP progress if you don't have this high end ultra class.

I have two characters in Endgame and a 3'rd in Cruel so far with 199 hours. I get to endgame, run maps for a bit and run into the waystone sustain problem around T8 maps. So I take a break and reroll another character. Happens every time. Loosing the map is fine. Loosing exp feels bad.

and thats why you will always be "stuck" in t8 maps while people farm t18s on day1 with no issue.
