I kid you not, I found this out minutes before reading your reply. Good timing xD
Mechanically it behaves exactly as another weapon set, you can configure skills to switch in or out of the tranformation as well as locking out skills to prevent their use while tranformed (in case you misclick so that it doesn't demorph you).
You can also use a 3rd specialization tree in the passive tree for the transformation.
So if anything would prevent you from using a set, prevents you from using the transformation, it will switch you back to an appropriate set, removing the transformation.
Because it removes your weapon, if you were using a wand or staff skill as part of your damage, you get locked out of it in Demonform.
It also means if you had cast speed and spell damage on your weapon, the buffs from Demonform barely make up the loss.
Depending on the Quality of your weapon, Demonform can literally just nerf your damage.
It's especially harsh on Minion builds wanting to use the form to bolster personal damage as it costs you the spirit on your Sceptre and kills most of your minions.
I really enjoy the form and even set myself up to have 100% uptime on it, but then realized ... I lose more damage from weapon loss than I gain in damage from the form.
