What’s going on with the dodge roll?
I’m currently facing blackjaw. The boss isn’t hard at all I can beat him easily. The problem comes from the dodge roll. Every time he does a sweep I still get hit even though I dodged. The AOE attacks (when he slam his hammer onto the ground) also hits me even though I dodged it. I’m confused what am I doing wrong here? I’m using a sorceress character.

No iframes. Dodge isnt a get out of jail free card. You need to learn the boss moves and anticipate with your positioning.

Yea, dodging have no iframes. You can use it to do a quick reposition and it can be used to dodge under projectiles.

Think bloodborne/sekiro dodges not dark souls. No iframes, just for repositioning. You have to be outside the area of the attack before it hits.

No iframes, so you're not invulnerable when you dodge. Gotta learn where to position yourself at all times.

Dodge does have some invulnerability window for direct single target attacks, but not for AOE attacks and ground effects.

Also dodge is same speed as running so just run out of AOEs.

Alright I’m going to try to stay a lil bit far. But that’s messed up. What’s the point of having a dodge if it ain’t got invulnerability?🫤

Its a short burst of mobility. It gives the player more versatility but tries to avoid allowing players to become too dependent on it.

Otherwise you'll end up with goofballs on twitch doing naked no leveling runs

In contrary to all these sheep. There is indeed i-frames but his slam attacks throw up debris that deal a lot of damage. Keep circling him to avoid most of his damage but when he does his 3 hit combo you really need to pay atention

So you might dodge the initial hit but still get hit by the slam AOE or the debris projectiles

The average speed of moving with dodge is the same as moving normally, that's correct.

But when you dodge, you first get a burst of speed, and afterwards you are slowed down for a bit to compensate.

Because of that, if you're close to the edge of an AOE but not quite close enough to sidestep it, dodge roll can make the difference.
