Bug: Cannot Do Second Ascendancy Trial
I encountered my first (kind of) game breaking bug today, where I am locked out of the ascendancy trials in Act II. I completed the first Trial of the Sekhemas and unlocked my first Ascendancy. However, after I unlocked the second trial (with the coin from the vultures in the Titan area) I died. It will not let me try again, there is no "retry" or "continue" or any option. The Relic Altar says, "Interact to Participate in the Trial of the Sekhemas" but upon selecting it, it shows the trial still in progress even though the door is shut and I cannot continue or retry. Balbala has no available option to try again, restart, or anything like that.

Due to this bug, I can't continue or restart the second Trial of Sekhemas. Obviously, I posted this in the bugs forum for GGG, but I was wondering if any body has encountered this bug or have found a work around.

It's not a bug, just another trial with no Ascendancy, just loot reward. New Ascendancy will come in act 3.

Cool. I appreciate that I'm not locked out of the rest of them, but it's still a bug that will not let me retry/continue the Trials of Sekhemas (even if it just for XP and loot). Besides talking with Balbala or interacting with the altar (both are broken for me), is there some other way to reset it?

To me it sounds like you have a misconception because you thought that all trial invitations are the same as the quest invitation that you first receive. The general rule of all trial invitations, no matter if the Sanctum (Sekhemas) or the Ultimatum (Chaos) trial, is that each invitation can only be used a single time. If you die duuring the trial you need a new invitation to again attempt the trial.

The only exception to this rule are the 2 (green) quest invitations that first introduce you to these trials, so you can learn how those trials work without having to worry about getting a new invitation for each attempt. But once you completed the trial with them they also go away. And from what I remember there indeed is one guaranted invitation drop later in act 2, which is a regular invitation and thus an one time use item. So to try again you simply need to be really lucky to find a random new invitation. I at least only very rarely found new invitations during the campaign.

Also, just as some information, to get your second batch of 2 ascendancy points you either need to complete the Sekhemas trial with 2 trials, aka with 2 bosses, or complete the quest version of the chaos trial. For the third batch you need to complete 3 trials in the Sekhemas trial, or a 10 room chaos trial. and well, to get the invitation for that you need to get at least to the endgame. And for the last 2 points you need to beat the final boss of each trial.

Sorry, but not quite true? If you die during the Trials, you get a message that says you can try again. This happened to me several times during the first ascendancy trial. When you reload in the room with the altar and Balbala, you just talk with her and select "Retry." You can then replace the coin on the altar, re-activing the trial.

However, after starting the second one with the coin collected form the Unique Vultures in the Titan area, I ran out of time during one of the rooms where you have to tag the Death Crystals; it auto emptied my "Honor." I reloaded in the alar room, but I cannot retreive the coin, my altar relics, or select anything when talking with Balbala. Hopefully this makes better sense.

They literally answered you friend :) The first ascendancy you ever do from the quests both in act 2 and act 3 you can retry. Any other keys you get out of vultures or random drops you CANNOT retry.

If you die. You lose, this is not a bug. You have to place the piece back in the alter.
Bynn Dec 11, 2024 @ 6:30am
if you're using the quest versions if the trial tokens (green ones) and you die midway through, take the item out of the container then place it back it, literally turn it off and on: you can retry as many times as you want until you eventually complete it and get your 2 ascendancy points, after that you need regular itemised tokes that always get consumed on use, even if you lose.

...isn't this exactly what I said? Fro your first attempt you are under newbie protection, meaning you have infinite retries until you beat it for the first time. But after you completed the trial for the first time you completed the quest and your newbie protection is gone. Meaning that you then always only get a single attempt per coin. So to then try again you again need to find a coin randomly dropped by some enemy.

So like I said, you had the simple misconception thinking that the exception was the rule and that the rule was a bug. Every single entry costs a brand new coin and there are no more free refunds for you. Well, at least for the Sekhemas trial, the Chaos trial in act 3 should still also offer you the usual newbie protection once you do that one for the first time.

Yeah, I get that. The problem is that I cannot interact with it to place the piece "back in the altar."

Do you have a coin in your inventory? You never mentioned that you found a new coin you could place into it. And maybe the game sees your inventory and doesn't bother with showing you a place to put the coin in if you have none.

Yeah, sorry about that. I do have the coin but I cannot interact with the Altar or Balbala. I can't place the coin and neither can I remove my relics from the altar. I'm going to chalk it up to you're all correct and the game bugged out by either 1. giving me the coin when it shouldn't or 2. it's stuck and just not letting me replace the coin. Either way, it's broken for me so I'll just wait and see what happens.

I got a Djinn Barya coin from a drop. I've done my first ascendancy already but should still be able to do additional trials for loot, right? Nothing happens when interacting with the altar though, I can't place the coin to start it. What gives?

Edit: Nevermind, a relog fixed it.

Were u by any chance in a party? Cause only the first one to take the waypoint to sekhema gets to interact with the Relic table.

Not correct. You can actually do 2 floors instead of trial of chaos for 2nd ascend.
