you don't remember anything because you're also wrong about that
people are tryiong to crit to get a higher DOT. since magnitude of a DOT is based on the intial hit as magnitude modifiers. DOT's do not crit unless otherwise stated
dot can't crit , like essence drain .
what you describing is ailments , like poision or burn, these can be applied with crit to have higher damage, so if you run poision build you scale crit and crit dmg so poision applied with crit hits applies more dmg.
