PSA: DO NOT use town portal right after defeating an ascension trial's boss

My inventory was full right after defeating the ascension boss. Since I don't know what lies ahead, I decided to open a town portal right after defeating it.

Aaand you cannot use the portal again. Using waypoint to go back to the trial ends up resetting the entire thing.

So after repeating the whole thing again, I then found out there's a stash in the room next to it....

So yeah, no town portal in the boss' room, just to be safe.

Yeah, that's a reason why you have to use a single use item to enter the place, since that's the only way to enter. Though I guess the quest version has infinite uses if you fail it, which can be misleading for new players. And for some reason the usual warning when you try to leave is missing and being able to actually open up a portal also seems like an obvious oversight .... but I guess it's because they forgot to put down an exit portal in the reward room?

You can generally leave and go back to the saved progress (by entering anew. There is even an exit button on the trial altar where you choose rooms, it also states saved progress.

But yeah, boss room might not be a good idea.

IIRC in POE1; the game will warn you that "you cannot return after using a portal"

Sounds like they skipped/removed that warning

Yeah, I knew about this. I already tried using town portal in other rooms, and then coming back using waypoint to continue where I left off. Boss room is apparently not a great place to do it.

I also suggest taking the reward from rooms first, before leaving trough a portal or the altar.
