Free-to-play for $30? Help me out here.

I don't get it. Is it free-to-play or is it $30? Make up your mind please.

Also, can anyone give a few examples of how this is not exactly like Diablo so I can decide if I want to either get this for free or possibly pay $30 for it (see previous question)?

You essentially buy their premium currency for an EA key. Wait a year or more, and it will be completely free without spending any money.

I'm sorry but don't insult PoE by comparing it to D4 Its Diablo 2 but with a better skill system more enjoyable content and better build variety there ya go fixed it for you.

Its pay to early test. The game will be free after the test is done (early acess) in like 7 months.

Just watch someone play the game on youtube and see for yourself if you want or not test the game early. This is most to stress the game, performance and nerfs/buffs balancing before the full release.

Still, good game, worth the 30 dollars to play early and GGG actualy listen to their players if something is wrong.

This is Early Access, not full release. Paying is for support and getting into the Early Access testing. The game is not fully finished. Full release will be free-to-play

It's pretty simple. Early Access is not free.

It's not like Diablo 4 in that the Skills and Passives are interesting, and the bosses are actually fun.

it's f2p around 6 months time.
As for the $30 you get to play early and get $30 worth of coins for the store so it's a win win imo.

It'll be F2P in 6 months from now or maybea year depending on how testing goes (they can always extend EAA if need be so don't be fooled.) on offical release everything gets wiped Minus maybe cosmetic and titles for being A EA supporter.

oh and Diablo 2-4 in general are pretty easy compared to this game. DO you like dodge rolling to avoid death? DO you want to be really stressed while playing, and get that feeling of accomplishment when you beat the boss? That is what you get with PoE 2

D3 and D4 especially, like to give you fairly easy content, and loot pinatas. At the moment, PoE 2 is not like that.

Its early access my guy. Youre buying into a product that is playable but incomplete; Thats what early access means.

The game is an action RPG in the vein of victor vran or helsing over diablo; Its slow, its methodical, and its difficult. Its not a power fantasy game like PoE1 is.

If youre uninterested in a difficult ARPG that is currently in development, you can fish for keys (theres still a lot out there) or drop a similar amount on last epoch, d3-d4, or van helsing for a more finished experience.

You're paying 30 bucks to play early access. You get some in game currency that's worth about that much.

I believe so, just like the first game.

Why pay to play early access, you ask?
Because companies are greedy and they know people will pay, and they know that they probably won't get as much in game mtx in early access so they need a way to pay for putting this game out there in early access. It's essentially the same as a beta for an expansion in an MMO, you have to have an active subscription(pay for it) to access it.

Is it worth it?
If you like Diablo and the like but hate Diablo 4, then yes.

the ingame currency you get is actually closer to being worth about 13-16$ imo

Paying 30 bucks for the EA also gives you premium currency equivalent to 30 bucks so yea just wanna clear up the misunderstanding here.
