Yea, chests in particular have been awful so far.
Even those large loot chests that appear on the map have been super underwhelming. Going back through an area to find a loot chest that's important enough to be marked on the map only to receive a couple blues or a single magic ring is.... Yea. Doesn't feel great.
Even if you don't want to increase loot drops at a base level, at least make these one time quests somewhat rewarding.
Yea, playing in a group seems to compound the issue. I feel like I get just as much loot drops when playing solo as I do when I'm playing with 1-2 more people. Really makes that loot scarcity hit even harder when you're all trying to split the rare drops and can't salvage much to make regals.
Keep in mind the campaign of POE1 didnt have good gear for a long time, it was endgame modded maps where it was more likely to rain good gear, i expect the same here.
I like that orbs have real value and im using them as i get them vs sending stacks and stacks back to standard league every season.
Right now every orb i get is valuable, every yellow is a big deal, i look at my blues. Im not unhappy with this setup. I was never a fan of ignoring piles and piles of yellow gear, filtered via loot filter, and then blocking everything else.
That would help a lot with fixing your resists after you get hit with the penalties. We've lost so many of the more deterministic ways to get more resists. Passives, better essences, alteration spam, crafting were all good ways to patch up the holes in your resistances in PoE1 that are just gone here.
I have seen the occasional pieces of jewelry at the vendors, but it's scarce.
But i like it. Its not fun getting all the good loot straight away. I actually think its a good balance so far.
I do enjoy the scarcity compared to PoE1. I just feel like maybe we've swung a bit too far to the opposite side of the spectrum. I'm not saying going back to the amount of rares and currency drops in PoE1 is the answer.
Just increasing certain one time loot opportunities by a bit would alleviate a lot of the problems. Rather than having more loot drop overall, just make your first time killing certain bosses (especially act bosses) reward more.
Make going through the trouble of finding the large loot caches that show up on the overworld map more meaningful. This would give smaller injections of power that you have to actively seek out while still retaining the good feeling of a rare or currency drop.
I'm a long time D2 player, so I'm not scared of grinding for upgrades. I feel like first time boss kills in D2 were more rewarding, though. Even the Andariel bug that made repeated kills of her always drop first timer loot didn't feel broken or anything.
So far so good
