noob question/issue about Herald??

Im playing an archer, lightning arrow/lightning rod, i have exactly 30 spirit and im using Herald of thunder that requires 30 spirit.
So i right click on it to activate it, i see my spirit bar dropping to zero, but besides that, there are no visual effects of any kind and i dont see the lightning bolts its supposed to release, so its like the skill isnt activated??
It doesnt have any support gems linked to it that would require extra spirit.

And sometimes, lets say i install a new rune on a new weapon, for a period of time i can see my weapon with electricity around it, showing the herald visual. It's very random. Then it will go away while playing, opening menus or whatever, not sure what makes it go away actually...

Is it bugged?
something it dont understand and im doing wrong?

Herald is working as intended it's not really good IMO until you get the passive tree upgrades that increases the damage of the Herald buffs it's I think on the outer ring in the tree.

I would recommend you to read the entire skill I don't actually remember what it does it might require you to use lightning attacks but I can't remember.

yes.
But heralds usually ligght up your weaponn or hands while is activated...theres a cosmetic thinng to show its on. i dont have that, even tried other heralds.

does three herald auras work together? or if mobs were shattered by herald of ice, they wont explode by herald of ash?

For herald to work you need to kill something that is shocked , it is kinda bad in combat itself, considering that you kill most mobs at the same time anyway ,but it can help a little bit and can get nice damage increase bonus if you spec in skill tree as above comment said.
