Path of Exile 2

Path of Exile 2

Is Monk supposed to be extremely weak early game?
I'm lvl 17 and can't kill the act 1 last boss. It doesn't seem impossible but almost impossible. My damage is lacking and I die extremely fast. I'm down for some tips but I also don't want to look up a meta build and copy it.

act 1 boss is rather hard and you probably have sub-par gear. Get a better weapon, get a few levels and get some ice resist. you got this :)

How do you get ice resist ? Passive tree ? I don't have much control over gear since drops are ♥♥♥♥♥ and vendors are too expensive.

The most I struggled with monk was end of act 1 into the start of act 2.

Once I found a good lightning staff and got tempest flurry, I breezed through act 2. In Act 2 you can find qstaffs that are pure lightning damage, and if you're scaling your damage off lightning those staffs go CRAZY.

Learn to love the bell as well. The bells is insanely good if you've got a fast hitting attack like tempest flurry. If you're playing with friends who can also hit the bell fast, it becomes so good it's not even funny.

The first mini boss you encounter in the first area outside clearfell town gives a permanent +10% cold resist boost. Combine that with a bit on gear and a ice resistance charm and the boss becomes more manageable.

i haven't played yet, but i've been seeing a lot of people say that you really need to use your "currency" drops on your gear to buff it. make good gear blue/yellow/etc. add extra stat rolls to your gear, that sort of stuff. apparently these items are more plentiful than in PoE1 and intended to be used while going through the game.

Definitely. Helps to check the vendor often too. Their shop gets refreshed every time you level up, and they even sell rare gear now. Very good early on for keeping your gear up to snuff.

lvl 17 you should be able to use tier V skills.

Get the bell with overbundence and overpower
get tempest flurry with concentrated effect and martial tempo.
A weapon that has increased elemental damage or physical.
skill tree search echoing thunder and make a line there from where you can get damage
with optional missions you should be able to get several +10% elemental damage with extra skill points.
spam bells on the boss and hit them at same time as the boss.
the bells aoe back your attack while boosting it with extra damage and stun
2 bells at the same time is ideal but wont have much duration early on.
at 22 you will get storm range attack for clearing mobs and flurry for bosses.

I would say that most classes and passive tree paths are too weak to beat the act 1 boss. It takes figuring out a good combo of gear and passives to get it done. I struggled to beat the act 1 boss. I had 10+ deaths. IMO the game is over tuned.

I can't use tier v as it requires me to have 20 dex and I don't meet the requirements. I didn't know I had to invest in stats but I might get a +5 dex node next level and use t5's.

Ok I'm guessing tempest flurry is something you get later on ? I'm using the two palm skills but they are very weak. One of them gives me blue charges on lasts hits to hit that big thunder attack but getting those last hits is very difficult and borderline useless on the boss fight.

edit : I recentyl got a blue staff which had 13-26 lightning damage on and turned it rare and added an extra modifier. It looks ok ish now. It's the best one I got so far.
