Respec should be FREE
I think we can all agree that this game is non-trivial to pick up. Whether you like it or not is a different question. However GGG said they want to attract new players, those that bounced off PoE 1. Well these players should be able to learn and experiment freely with the game.

In the situation when the gear drops are rare and garbage, they sell for dirt cheap, and you need the money for other things as well, the price to respec dozens of passive nodes is too high.

I know PoE 1 until recently asked for a arm and a leg to respec. That doesn't mean this game should also make things this hard. I followed guides for my PoE 1 characters and learned nothing about the game, because I could not experiment, any deviation meant I bricked my character and had to restart. D3 had free skill respecs and that didn't decrease anyone's enjoyment of the game.

Change my mind.

you can easily soft-brick your character in this game if you pick the wrong support skills early on, since support drops are so low and spirit/aura drops are even more rare

build guides for PoE2 will focus on meta picks for skill and support gems in act 1, because only some skills are worth using at all or do damage, and if you picked the wrong ones then tough ♥♥♥♥

yep I thought at the beginning that uncut gems of various levels are common drops. Just a few minutes ago I found out that I picked the wrong skill for my level 5 gem, and the next one is in Act 2. 😕
100000000%

From Diablo to Ultima Online to DAOC and anything in-between. Non free respecs are pure cancer. It discourages experiments, punishes noobs, and kills the playerbase in situations where the skill curve/ceiling is already high.

Guildwars is the only franchise that did things correctly in that regard.

Actually when you look at pre-early access footage the respec price is 90g, right now (for me) it's ~200g.

respec are free... it cost gold? if i understand correctly, since i don't have the game and just watch streamers play it... so, just get more gold?

Does it have to be a grindy game to be enjoyable? Would you enjoy it less if experimenting with the skill tree was free, or cheaper?
I don't know about you but I have other things to do except play this game. Besides there are other things to grind for, aside from grinding to have the ability to actually learn the game.

Just go back a few zones and blast through them. What i did for 10 mins and made plenty as ranger. But yea seems it scale with your level so further you get the more expensive it gonna be.

If it's any consolation, gems do drop somewhat frequently. I'm level 27 sitting on at least 5x of each gem level up to 7.

:steamfacepalm: the game is literally a grindy game. its like you've never played the first version of Path of Exile... but if you haven't, that is understandable.

They are talking about the gold cost, and the fact that it's only applied on weapon skill, plus you need to complete certain main mission, while you can't do anything when it comes to gemcut skill & support

So far the best solution if you screw up your build and bellow lvl10 is just to straight deleting your character.

OOF that is kind of punishing, since you need the npc to unlock the respec thing?

As I said there are other things to grind for in this game. Endgame is fine to be grindy, all ARPG have a grindy endgame. We're all here for the endgame loot and bosses.

What I say is that I want to be able to learn the game, to experiment with my passives.
I don't want to be stuck following guides that other people, who have time for grinding, make. I want to be the confident enough to make a super cray build, or a really crappy one for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles.

Weren't you in the situation in PoE 1, where the game just will not give you the gear you need, but your skill tree set in stone?
In D3 you could just re-spec everything to fit the gear that you have. You play a different build for a while and when you find the gear you needed you respec back.

Yup and you'll get it before level 10 as long as you're not rp walking place to place.

If you are already making mistakes on your build at that level it will be negligible at worst.

Oh no, the game doesn't give me instantly what I want!!!
How could it!!!!!!11!!

PS: Respec is fine. The cost is there for another chance for you to use your brain and apply only the minimal respec, instead of clicking through all the tree again and again, monkey-style.
