I had a hard time getting anywhere with the monk too... you are paperthin when it comes to being able to sustain hits. Once you actually get going you can dish out some serious damage, sure, but it does mean that if you get hit during a boss fight you better pray to the high heavens you'll survive that hit... if the beach doesn't grace you with any armour drops then any of the millers move is likely to kill you during that fight
Warrior has armour to mitigate that... even a shield option if so inclined so you have much better leeway to make a mistake
ALL other classes have (long)range options
Monk has neither of the above AND a startup time to boot... it's the only class I struggled with at the beginning
